I saw a little writeup on Canyonchasers about removing the fuel tank on the T509 Sp3, and they said to watch out for the fitting that connects the fuel line to the tank. They said it was pretty fragile on the T509s, but the 955s had aluminum fittings.

Are there any tricks to working with the fittings? Anything else I should watch out for? I'm going to the races at VIR on Sunday and I don't want to have to drive because I messed up my bike!

The 02's also have plastic fittings and they are fragile. Several have failed, but there are metal fitting that have been made available (but they are expensive...$75). You can find some here...CLICK.

I haven't seen them anywhere else for much cheaper.

Thought there was a factory recall on those fittings ? I got mine FOC when I asked about em (having snapped one off the day before a trackday gah !)

Yeah, there is a recall to upgrade to metal fittings - but only for one side (can't remember if it's the male or female fitting). My dealer upgraded both male & female fittings to metal when I took it in for the recall service.

Calling the plastic fittings "fragile" is an understatement - they're pretty much guaranteed to break if you try to remove them - no matter how gentle you are...

I'll check and see if the tank still has the plastic fittings. If it does, I may hold off on removing the tank until I can get the metal fittings.

I was wanting to remove the tank in order to get a look at the airbox and other parts. See my other thread Click about the exhaust.

I have had no issues with the fittings when removing the tank. Just make sure you don't yank on 'em and you should be fine.
