With the head of Sarah Jessica Parker successfully grafted to the chihuahua, and the Rustoleum holding up quite nicely on the exhaust shrouds, well past its expected departure date, I was thinking about doing the radiator shrouds in black too.
However, this product has caught my attention and I was wondering if anyone had tried it.
Says it gives "a durable enamel finish that is oil, gas and heat resistant to 500ΒΊ F intermittently," and I'm figuring if the Rustoleum works, this oughta.
Metalcast
Anyone tried it?
I'm thinking blue for the heat shields, shrouds and maybe the handlebars (yes, it's supposed to work on chrome).

Heat ain't a problem - even the Rustoleum's holding up. I'm more interested in what the finished product might look like.
If nobody here's tried it, I might give it a go just for the heck of it.

I haven't tried it but I am interested in the outcome. Go for it and give us some pics.

Handlebars? I would assume you'd need to abrade to give a key. Can't see how it would work to be honest, you'll need to be really careful when you fit your bars back up so you don't scratch them or crack the paint when you clamp them up. You won't be able to put it back to standard either. Renthals I reckon. I like the idea of the other bits being blue though, interesting

1050 - there's an "adhesion promoter" that you're supposed to spray on chromed parts before painting. My guess is it somehow etches the finish enough to hold.
So... I bought the paint, but now there's a new wrinkle - the turn signal wires plug in WAAAAY back up under the air box. No way to fit my hands up in there, so what should be a simple matter of unpluggin' 'em now means...
a) remove the gas tank (including having to deal with all the attendant fuel hoses, breathers, etc). Not really worth the trouble, unless maybe the folks who have tried it already can tell me if it's possible to just lift the front of the tank without too much hassle.
b) clip the wires and install a set of connector plugs closer to the radiator and maybe shrink-wrap the mess when through or leave it as is with a good coat of electrical grease
c) leave well enough alone and find something more meaningful to do with my life
What would Tim Allen do?

I don't know this from personal experience, but others have posted on this board that there are connectors within each front turn signal stalk. You should be able to disconnect those and remove the turn signals with no other disassembly.

BRILLIANT! I love this board. Sure enough, connectors on the inside of the housing. Okay, I'm off to paint. Then for my next experiment, grafting the head of Jessica Alba to the body of a sheep (one of the Aussies around here requested it - dunno why )

In the unlikely event that curmudgeon defaults on the body or suffers an unfortunate accident... I'm second in line, big plans for the weekend.
