Hello guys,
I know this has been under discussion but can't find it. S3 06 1000 km
on the clock now: very OK bike - only harm is those little oil drops
on carage floor after driving. Should not be there at modern times!
Drops fall from somewhere near the sidestand-area, perhaps
from the clutch mechanism?
A common prob? Solution? Plenty of warranty time left...thanks
for your time in advance.

Have you recently changed the oil? Mine did that after my first change... two things. One, not wiping up the threads on the motor allowing a little to drip, two... oil filter too loose or most likely too tight...

Are you sure it is oil from the sidestand area and not coolant from the overflow tubes area? The coolant overflow tube in the great-bundle-of hoses is the most frequent puker.

If it is in fact coolant, then the fix is simple: stop filling the coolant overflow tank under the saddle! If you see some fluid in there, you have enough. If you see more than 1/3 of a tank of fluid, you will see the same fluid on your garage floor after your next ride.

To Martin R;
its oil. I saw some older post, someone wrote that oil is coming out of the shifter lever
area - almost in every bikes? Any ideas - my 02 sprint never gave a drop?

Have a look at the neutral switch insert. The insert can be cracked by overtightening during installation.

My dealer changed this twice and then found a porous lower crackcase casting which leaked from the machining bore for the insert. My dealer replaced the crankcase no questions.

Now no leaks.

Snap - exactly the same as mine, porus hole next to the neutral switch. then the new cases had the blanking grub screw missing (remove the sprocket cover - screw is at the bottom), one more trip to the dealers and all is sorted, no more leaks

My '01 just started leaving a drop after a ride.Looks like it's coming from the shifter area also.Is this common to the 955's?

Mine was leaking oil from a loose sensor, just behind the end of the starter, it looks kinda like a spark plug with a thin black wire attached to the top.

Check to see if there is oil pooling around it. The oil would pool, and when I set the bike on its kick stand, the oil would drip next to it... It eventually got really bad within a couple days, And I had a 4 inch pool of oil under the bike after every ride.

I took it in to show the dealer, They cut the wire, tightened the sensor, Spliced the wire, Job is done.

Hairball and others,
thanks for comments. I think Hairball's story is nearest to my problem,
that little black wired thing feels oily. It is funny though that there are
not spots under the bike after every ride, but I'll have it checked.
Little things can irritate so much but I think nobody likes oil on the floor...
