So after 2 K miles ( I know, not much, while my van has an disproportionate 10K over the same period), I too noticed my ring finger & pinky getting smooshed on hard braking. Well, Monday nite I found a piece of tie line ( tie line is essentially a shoelace) sitting next to the bike, so I tried the tie the brake lever trick. Lo & behold, today the brakes have better feel than from new. Still a little more lever travel than my old SV or my friend's 4 yr old Bandit, but definitely a huge improvement.
I'm guessing tieing off the brake lever will be included in the owner's manual next to lubing the chain in the next edition.
