I read about lots of problems with clutch cables breaking on 955 Speed Triples. I think I found a cure....Install a 1050 Speed Triple on your 955. The main problem with the older cable is the big bend just at the end where the cable connects to the engine. The new bikes cable is straight and I figure the lever pull should be lighter as well.
Any thoughts ?

I think most breaks occur at the other end , right by the lever. And a new cable every 10K helps alot too, just did mine and the old was feeling very nasty when removed and
the new feels so much smoother.

I don't think a whole 1050 s3 will fit on a 955..

I've got an '02 as well and have been on this forum for quite a while. While I remember there being a recall, I've seen maybe one or two people complain about the clutch cable. The ones that actually complained about them breaking were riding 2001 S3's (if I remember correctly).

Have an 02 Triple I bought used with 6K on the clock. Now have 24K with no problems out of the clutch cable that is on it, just keep it lubed up!

Don't lube up the new ones, they have a teflon type
inner liner. That was what the dealer parts guy told me.

I just installed the 1050 clutch cable on my 2002 955 and it works fine, the pull is lighter and smoother.
I had to rout the cable outside the frame like the 1050 S3 is done. Hope this helps you guys.
PS the part number for the cable is T2040395.
Cheers Mossy

I just use white lithium lube on my 03 cable and its looking good after 17,000 miles. The pull is a bit heavy, but I've gotten used to it.
