Hey, how do you tighten the chain on the S3?? Is it just a link removal or is there any other way?? I have a track day coming up and it needs to be done so I pass tech inspection.

Hey Captain Jack,

Your owners manual gives a good description of how to adjust the chain.

easiest chain I've ever adjusted! You just loosen the pinch bolt on the swingarm, and use your spanner wrench from the toolkit to lock on the chain adjuster on the hub. Can't remember, but I think clockwise tightens, but you'll figure that part out! :-D

Yeah, I remember I was out riding after I'd just gotten it, an' me an' my Hurricane riding friend were starin' at the thing, scratchin' our heads an' wonderin' how to adjust the tension.

Then I looked at the owner's manual. Ingenious gizmo!

When all else fails, read the instructions :-D

Thanks guys. Never fails that I forget to look in the most obvious place. And all along I just thought owners manuals were for oil capacities and tyre sizes.

Jack,

a point to remember, with the S3 a correctly adjusted chain appears to have a lot more slack in it that other bikes. Follow the manual's instructions carefully.

When I am finished, I get on the bike, and I reach down and check the slack with my weight on it. Putting the weight on the bike takes up a lot of the slack. After my first service (at a Triumph dealer) I rode away and the bike felt funny. I stopped and checked the chain and with my weight on it it was bowstring tight. Without my weight it seemed OK.
(I've since changed mechanics). So even supposedly trained mechanics can get it wrong.

THanks for the input guys, got her all snugged up and ripping up the streets. Sliders installed, indicators removed and ready for the track.
