Many (many) moons ago riding home at night on my GS1000 (great scooter) and the rear light went out. No harrowing story that I just missed being rear ended ...but I was glad I had a rear reflector.

Soooo. I've been meaning to get a Tail Tidy but have a nagging feeling that I'm giving up a bit of logic for good looks. But then again if I was logical I wouldn't be riding Speedy.

Is a rear reflector useful?

With the inherent reliability of the LEDs that comprise the brake light on the 05+ S3s, you certainly won't have to worry about the rear light burning out. I suppose a wiring problem or short could cause a loss of rear light, but if this happens, the rear light might be the least of your worries!

it would be useful for the exact reason that you just described, but they look kinda fugly so i have none. i'm sure you can find one to connect to your plate. alternatively if you are that concerned buy a blinking bicycle led light and keep it under your seat in the event this occurs. then u can tuck it away hidden unless needed. can pick one up for peanuts. the license plate itself does some reflection as well...right?

i personally have nothing.

Automotive stores carry small round reflectors that you can attach to the corners of your license plate. Alternatively you could buy some reflective tape and place it strategically in the rear somewhere. Maybe a 1-2 inch piece on the rear hub cover, or maybe a thin strip around the outside edge of your license plate?

Don't get me started on my technical uses for duct tape!
