I have a 1999 Adventurer...a very nice bike.

But I'd also like to add something a bit more sporty. I'm about maybe next week trying to get a test ride on a Speed Triple if I can find one.

I've read the review elsewhere on this site.

My main question is the bike "relatively" comfortable to ride on 50-75 mile trips. It appears the seating position is not quite as radical as a pure sport bike.

Other comments about the bike in general would be welcome.

Thanks for your input.

Mark,
I had the same concern you did....my former bikes wher a HD Sportster and a '91 Honda Magna. I never even considered sport bikes in the past due to the riding position.

The S3 is MUCH better than a "traditional" sport bike. After sitting on one for over 30 minutes...the dealer finally agreed to let me take it out for a ride. It's VERY comfortable. It's not a cruiser.....you are leaning over a little bit....but it is very comfortable.

Go take a look....you'll probably buy one. I did!

Its definately not as aggressive as a full-on sportbike. You're not forced into a tuck because of the relatively relaxed bars on the Triple. But the pegs are more aggressive than most "standards" or foot-forward cruisers. I find my knees being the first thing to get tired, but that's after a couple of hours of riding. So as far as I'm concerned 50-75 mile trips aren't a problem.

BUT, if you're looking for a freeway cruiser, I don't know if this is the bike. I personally don't enjoy cruising at 75mph on the freeway on this bike as there's little or no wind protection. But I bought it more for twisties and back-higway jaunts.

I think that it's perfectly comfortable other than the vinyl covered brick Triumph calls a seat. But that's changed easily enough at the end of the summer when Sargent gets their new generation S3 seat ready.

Last weekend, I did 650 miles between Saturday and Sunday. Other than the seat, it was fine. The peg position isn't an issue for me probably because I'm only 5'9".

500 mountain miles on a perfect weather weekend yields a very big smile-per-mile ratio.

I've done a 500 mile weekend on mine..and the thing that bothered me the most...was my butt!! 50-75 mile jaunts shouldn't be a problem.

Wind protection..on the freeways...forget about it..keep it in the twisties..and its great!!

The thing that still gets me though..since the bike is so tall, is slow speed stuff..and since I can't really touch that well (tiptoes in most cases) it kinda sucks. That's what I get for being short though. (5'6" on a good day)

I reckon the 04 Triple is the most comfortable bike I've ridden. Have to admit though I've never owned a tourer.

Like others here, the brick (seat) is the only gripe - fitting a soft pad moved the butt ache from occurring at 100 miles to 500. At 6'2" and 205 lbs the bars, seat, peg relationship is perfect for me.

Speed limits in NZ mean that extended miles over 80mph are not possible - so the windblast actually helps with keeping the licence!
