The instructions say that RPMs should be between 0-3500 during the first 160km. The switch lights go red on 3500 RPM. 6th gear on 3500RPM equals 90km/h which is kinda lame on freeways. Are they serious about this?

What do you think about this whole run in period thing with triple? Is it bull or something you shouldn't over look?

What RPMs you usually have on highway speeds, around 120km/h?

The motor actually runs on 6th gear on 3500RPM without any problems.

You can adjust the lights on the instrument cluster to go on at whatever point you like. Check the manual.

Some will say ride it like your going to ride it from day 1. The percentage of people who will say this will be low. I'd take it easy til 500 miles (800k).

Not sure on RPM's for highway at 120 km/h. At 140mph I'm at about 9K. :-D

I would not obey the run in schedule too meticulously.

I would do good momentary accelerations normally using all the gears, avoiding labouring the engine with too low revs or keeping in the high revs for too long periods at a time.

The acceleration (or "variable speeds", as the manual puts it) is the thing that helps the piston rings to fully seat. Labouring the engine with too low revs in a too high gear will stress the components much more than normal mid rev riding. Also avoid riding in the same rev range in a touring mode as much as you can. Steady long distance work does nothing running in wise and is to be avoided.

Avoid freeway's for the first 500km. Take the B-roads and keep shifting up and down a lot.

Martin_R is right on. This is what I did and had no problems at all. It is also what my Triumph certified mechanic recommended when I picked-up my baby (off the record of course) for all the reasons that Martin_R states. Have no fear, they're strong, well built machines and the rings need a little workout to bed nicely otherwise you might have problems when you switch out the heavier break-in oil.

In a nut shell:
1). Don't lug the engine (too high a gear and too low rpm);
2). Don't hold a constant rpm for too long;
3). Vary the rpm's and don't be afraid to open it up a little once in a while.

Have fun with your new scoot...

Ok. What is acceptable RPM range then? Should triple be driven in high or low RPM? What is high and what is low?

hehe.

low for me is anything under 2000rpm. i rarely ever get under 2000. i'm usually always between 2000 and 3500 on the city streets. on the freeway though, i tend to turn into a maniac....... :hammer:
