Hello, I am just about to become the proud owner of an Oct 05 speed triple with only 150 miles on the clock. Obviously it is in showroom condition, but the fella has not taken it back for it's first service. Anyone know how this will affect the warranty and what they actually do on the first service? The other thing is, that I really like the nose fairing of the 04 triple. Can it be fitted to an 05?

Most important thing on the first service is the changin of run in oil to a regular synthetic, so I would take the bike in once you have the required run in mileage on the clock.

Not having the service done yet should not effect your warranty in any way as you have not reached the mileage yet. I would not take the bike in before the run in is complete.

150?????????????? is that supposed to say 1500? i think you will be totally fine, as martin said with 150 and would not bring the bike in until the miles are at the warranty number. even if it was 1500, go change the oil right away, keep the receipt. then "remember" that when you changed it on XYZ date it only had 500 miles on it.

so if this is really 150 miles. are you f'n kidding me. who are these yahoo's who buy a $10k bike and put 150 miles on it? i did buy a sv650 with a few years behind it with only 260 miles. i just don't get it. even if you buy a bike and get super busy with life, i'd think you'd knock out more miles than that shortly after buying just from excitement. crazy!

Yeah anyway, it's pointless to do the 500 mile service until....500 miles! My dealer said it will not void the warranty if I missed a service. What I did was change my own oil and filter, then took it in for the service. They plugged it in to the computer and adjusted the chain and stamped my owners manual for the service, and didn't charge me a thing. I only took it there to have it documented, but according to the dealer, I didn't really have to to keep it under warranty.

Yes it really has done only 150 miles! The fella that's selling it has a few other toys, like a V rod, a TVR tuscan and a TVR griff. Still, I'm not complaining. What are the thoughts on running in? As per the book, or ring it's neck from now on and forever more!

there will be different opinions on this, but i say take it easy until 500, which i think you will find the majority agrees with.

When all else fails - read the instructions

Just take it easy and enjoy the first 500 miles at a leisurely pace. That'll make opening it up afterward all the more rewarding.
