There is a very long thread devoted to this question, which hasn't been added to for a long time. When last tallied up the average age was about 42.

As we have a lot of new members perhaps it is time to visit the thread again.

Find it here: How old are you then?

Hey kaseydc,

I'm sure you are wondering whether you've purchased an "old man's bike". I am 36 and you would probably consider me to be an old guy though, trust me on this, at 36 you won't feel old.

My bike receives a great deal of attention from the 40+ crowd when I am out and about. Its true. For some reason older guys are attracted to the Speed Triple. Why? I can't say for sure but I think it has something to do with:

A) Triumph motorcycles seemed to be a cool thing to own in the early/mid 70's so older guys have a thing in their hearts for the brand.

B) A lot of older guys really like the newer sport bikes but feel they would look ridiculous on one or that they would be way too uncomfortable riding one. So the S3, minus all the plastic and with a more upright stance, appears to be a more "grown up" bike than the crotch rockets of today.

If I am wrong on any of this (anyone) or if there are other reasons to be considered please feel free to enlighten me.

BUT... I should also tell you that my bike does get a lot of attention from the younger guys too. Most try not let you notice they are checking it out because they feel the bike may be an "old guy's bike". But some do venture over to drool over the thing and ask many questions.

I wouldn't consider the S3 an old man's bike. I'd consider it a INDIVIDUAL's bike. Older guys have just figured out that "fitting in" isn't as important as individual happiness. It seems you have figured this out at an earlier age. Congratulations and good luck to you!

I just realized that I am only 6 months younger than
George Bush , but I am smarter so I guess that is an even trade.

I'm just a youngblood at 26, but I get compliments all the time on my bike......And they are always from the 40+ crowd......

"I DIDN'T KNOW THEY STILL MADE THOSE"

It def. has to with the fact that these guys has a spot for Triumph when they were kids. Both of my uncles has bonny's as teenagers and were really happy to hear I was buying a brit bike and not the other kind.

I ride primarily around Manhattan/ Brooklyn/ NJ area and other fellas my age are so into the newest jap. bikes they don't even know what mine is......

Until I smoke them.
