I'm considering buying a naked bike, so I've been lurking here for the past day or so to get informed by the informed. I thought the yellow was nice, but it looks like no one here would talk to me if I showed up on one (maybe it looks different in person).
But my question is on pricing. Is the MSRP firm or do the dealers deal? :???: If so, what should I expect?
BTW, I live in the SF Bay Area.

Now that's a can o' worms you've opened.
I paid MSRP, but my dealer's the only game around for a couple hundred miles in any direction. Some dealers are charging more. Others are charging less. It's a matter of supply and demand - although a wad o' cash will speak volumes if ya wanna get the price down.

I got the same "deal" as R100. I should have gotten the "extremely ancient super senior discount" but I got the old screw job instead

Aw, heck Coyote, if you're buying new then what does it matter what ya pay? You know those guys are gonna cut ya a heckuva deal with their LOW, LOW monthly payments!
This is America my man! Find a buddy and buy a couple on a "buddies twin pack... w/free trailer included! Only $59.99 a month" promotion. Forget what it'll cost you in the end! You live in Cali... you'll be able to leave the key in it out front when you don't like it anymore and then you can get a new bike later. Of course, if you go with the yellow it may take a while for someone to steal it.
My point: What's money man? Credit is the new currency of this age.
Seriously, I would recommend that you buy a used bike that some sucker bought on the "0 down, $39.99 a month" program and had to sell to buy cigarettes. Owning new vehicles is great but not cost-effective. Just my .02 (w/a couple of wooden nickels thrown in for good measure).

Depends on the interest and availablitity. You can usually work 2 dealers against each other for your business but they'll try and get you on something else, like setup, registration, tax. if they have a few, yo ucan prob get 500 bucks off.

I paid MSRP with no setup fee (don't ever pay one, modern bikes come fully assembled), no labor charge on first service, and I got 25% off any gear/accessories I bought that day. Seemed fair to me. I don't mind dealers charging sticker. The margins on a bike aren't that great and they gotta eat too.
As for the yellow, see one in person before deciding. It's quite stunning. I almost bought one but someone told me the black ones are faster.

The yellow seems to get some pretty serious bashing here. I don't like buy anything that's tough to sell later ..... and good color sense isn't one of my talents :-o

I don't think it's real bashing. Just a kind of running joke between a couple of our members. You won't have any trouble with resale on the yellow. I wasn't at all impressed with the blue, however.
Of course, that may not be a factor. After a little over a year on mine, I'm 100% sure it's in my permanent collection. I can't think of a better testimonial than that.

Coyote, If you are going to buy something new then get what you want. Don't let others make a decision for you. The uniqueness of the S3 is what draws people to it. Don't worry about what others think when it comes to what is visually appealing to you.
Besides, the yellow takes most of its bashing simply because the Cheap One owns one (Hang around long enough and you'll understand).
I would guess its true that black would probably hold value better... but realistically, if you are already thinking about selling your bike then you probably shouldn't be buying one (at least not new) because you probably won't get out of it, monetarily, what you'll put into it anyway.
