Well maybe classic is the wrong word, but let me share my way of thinking. I am patiently waiting on a local dealer to receive an 00 triple that is being traded in on an 06 by an older gentleman. I haven't seen or ridden this triple but it sounds like the kind of bike I am looking for. The reason I am waiting on this bike before considering something else (kawasaki z1000) is that for one, it is already 6 yrs. old, I consider it rare, character rich, and in years to come, maybe even considered a classic. OR will this bike in 5 more years just be equal to an old out dated japanese bike with no more value or appeal than a 12 y/o Z1000, FZ1, etc.

No i don't consider it will be ever classed as an outdated jap bike,to start with you don't see that many on the road to start with, and the fact that they look oh so cool in my opinion i think they will become a classic,s#*t they are now,as much as i love my 05 i reckon the older models have got all the curves in all the right places, ride on.

IMO '97-'01 models have the best styling. Like the man said--"all the curves in all the right places." I love my '01--I always
hear "nice bike!". You won't be sorry!

who cares if it's classic. forget about that kawasaki, FZ1 business and get the triple. like mentioned, it will be more rare and will always be considered in a different class than the japenese makes. btw, some people on this forum (not me) find the use of the word "jap" offensive.

I can't fit this whole sentence into my head at once.
I don't think it will be a classic. It's just an old bike. Maybe in 20 years.

Take it from me, you dont want the Z1000. (I had one, and sold it for the triple....best move I ever made)
Get the triple.

Had a speedway bike with a Jap engine back in the 70s.
It was lots of fun on a 1/4 mile loop down in the 100 acre paddock.
Didn't know you could offend people wit them.

Scary, my thoughts were supported by others on this question! The fact is I have been squandering way too much money away on bikes the last couple of years and know it has to come to a halt, hence I am looking for a bike that has the characteristics I named previously that I will be happy with for many years. Now, if the guy will just go pick-up his new bike and trade in the 2000. On the bright side, every 2 wks. I am delayed gets me closer to affording an 06!

if ya can find ya one in scorched yeller, she'll be a classic. I think in another year or so, the yeller's will be worth twice that of a black one! :-D

Dude, that style Speed Triple was seen in all kinds of different movies (Mission Impossible, The Matrix, ...). Its already a classic in the eyes of many. Being that its a Triumph, it will always have a cult following. Now what will retain its value is how well you maintain it...
