looking at a nice down payment and a draft from my bank that entitles me to one (1) new motorcycle (within certain limits of course). I have chosen a Speed Triple after seeing them for the first time since 2001, around a month ago and stalking about on this forum. (Not lots of Triumph running round the corn fields in my neck o' the woods.)

So where's the problem, right?

The delima: It is currently Aug. and 2007 models should be out in Sept......do I go for the instant gratification or wait to see what the tight lipped folks bring out next month????

Instant gratification: I run risk of missing out on some cool new stuff. Also a better chance of a nice deal due to end of model yr...blah blah. It also gives me about 10 days to really enjoy before work starts back up for the fall.

Waiting: I am one more month or so lurking about here and being jealous. But I could be the first kid on the block to have aforementioned new stuff. Chances are also good that dealers will be less likely to make a good deal; after all, they have all year to sell some bikes.

I have also seen some rumor (somewhere on these forums, too lazy to search it right now) that the 2007 models may have some changes for European emissions standards that may affect performance across the board.....arrrrggghhh.

So I am open to whatever input anyone has.......especially if you have some kind of insider stuff concerning '07 models. But hurry, '06's aren't sticking around for long it appears.

I am big on instant gratification......do not wait.

It is unlikely that 2007 models will have any vast improvements (apart from rumored color options). Triumph are not inclined to make major upgrades every five minutes like the japanese manufacturers.

Go for it now!

Hey, milqster, whereabouts are you? I'm near Edwardsville, IL, and got a good deal on an '04 Speed Triple at Donelson's, in St. Charles, MO.
Since moving out here in the eternal cornfields, the Ducati mostly just sits in my garage, looking good. Not much fun on the interstates...The triple is a blast in straight lines, as well as twisties, and seems to be as reliable as a hammer!

If you wait for 2007 models then you might find 2006 going below list.
As said major changes not likely, but if they come up with an 'R' version (Ohlins & Brembo etc) then I'd be doing a bit of head banging.

why not look for a used 05 or 06, only pay the $40 or whatever tax illinois has on used bikes, and take all that extra money to hook it up how you want (R style or whatever)? you will get the bike now and satisfy instant gratification and then get many extras and still likely not spend the amount you'd spend if you bought her brand new.

this is exactly what i did and i wouldn't have it any other way.

That was my original thought jdub....but the 2 used ones I have looked at have been so close to 'new' price that I felt I'd do better just buying new. (Not to mention the interest rate goes up when buying used)

As far as the flat tax fee on used bikes....that is something I had not heard of in IL, not saying it's wrong, just that I haven't bought any new or used for years. When my 77 was purchased I paid tax on the actual amount of sale (that was 12 yrs ago) and I built my '02 from ground up and had to pay tax on it just like a new bike.

Froggerz40, I am east of Mt. Vernon about 40 miles. It is about 100 miles for me to go to Belleville, IL (RPM). I spoke with Donelson's on the phone and wasn't very impressed with the guy I talked to. I realize they would probably be better in person, whilst waving a check at them.

i bought my last two bikes used and paid a flat fee of about $40. unless it's just a chicago thing (i think it's IL) you save serious dollars doing this. poke around on ebay, craigslist, cycletrader, and this forum. i shipped my bike from CA ($500) and saved a ton anyway, especially cuz it had a couple grand into it on parts i would have purchased anyway.
