So why has Triumph opted to use the smaller oil cooler on the S3?? Is the old cooler not getting the oil up to running temp, Should we be using a thinner grade oil, or are the just trying to save a bit of coin, I personally like the idea of having more cooling area on the bike as the water temp runs quite high, What do you think.

That's fine, But does anyone know why they have done it for sure, Is this going to be a problem for the longevity of the 1050 motor?? Be interesting to see what Triumph have to say.

With a small rad and a fan coming on frequently my guess is that this bike needs all the cooling it can get. With our sort of weather much prefer the large oil cooler.

I don't know for sure. However, i suspect that Triumph has the oil cooler ( i.e. heat exchanger thing pretty well figured out).
Sorry for another story but: I had a race car that i could not get up to minimum oil temperate until the ambient temp was greater than 85F. Below that i had to duct tape the cooler.
It did not have a fan.

My 03 has the smaller oil cooler and it stays nice and toasty most of the time. Gets up to temp and never really gets above 103C even on the hottest days sitting in traffic.
