So I decide to try gettin' a ride in before the afternoon rains hit, and Speedy has a hard time startin'. Once it's running, I turn the throttle and it stalls out. Start again, ease it on, it revs up but sounds a little rough. Hmmm...
Riding through town to meet the girlfriend for some Chinese for lunch before Heading out, it still seems a bit off, a bit hesitant when I crack the throttle open.
So after lunch I stop to top off the tank, put the key in, and the cap won't open. Turn, press, cuss. This is weird. So I turn the key with one hand and pry up an' the thing sounds like I'm openin' a vacuum packed jar o' peanuts or somethin' -sssssssssssssPOP.
I mean, that thing was stuck tight.
Fill it up and off we go - runs a lot stronger, no hesitation.
Very weird - never had a problem with the venting before. Tank was only down about 1/3. When I got home, I popped the cap just to see if it was doing it again, and it opened right up, no problem.

might be a case of the old stuck tip valve in the breather.. check the breather hoses for kinks also...

It's the dreaded "Kinked Tank Breather Syndrome." Somehow you've kinked or pinched your fuel tank breather. This is a known issue with an obvious and easy fix.
Just straighten out the hose or cut it off short.

Lemme guess - gotta pull the gas tank off to check this?

I had the same problem early on, check that in-line little black plastic valve on your left side in one of the drain/vent tubes, about ankle high, make sure it is vertical.

Hey R100Pilot,
I had the same problem early on, and after checking the hoses, (you don't have to remove the tank), I found the one way valve on the end of the breather valve had turned into a no way valve. I pulled the cheap and nasty plastic f*cker off and threw it away. No problems since.

Yeah, what legman said. It can be easier to fiddle with the hoses if you remove the left hand side plastic, but not really necessary.
The one with the one-way valve is the tank vent, and the straight line is the fuel fill drainage hole. Pretty straightforward.

Thanks for the tips. Been ridin' around in the rain. Maybe some dirt or mud got up in there. Probably take the thing off - less is more.
