Do any of you riders of 05 or 06 Speed Triples experience problems with the 1-2 shift in your transmission? I sometimes miss the shift (which I have never done on any of my previous bikes) and, sometimes, the feeling when shifting from first to second is very harsh, feels like a tap or kickback at the shift lever. All other gears shift smoothly and flawlessly.

Is this common or would that mean something is damaged in my tranny or shifting mechanism?

Thanks for the advice.

common. I (like many others here) took the linkage off and greased the ball and socket joints. make sure you don't lose the safety clip that runs through the ball and socket. might as well unscrew the ball section and put some thread lock on, mine were half way unscrewed. put it all back together with dobs of grease. play with the adjustment a little. hope that made sense.

Thanks for the pointer, but I would have thought if my shifting woes are simply a matter of adjustment, why do they occur only when shifting from first to second and not when shifting the other gears?

I don't know, I'm a big dummy :-D All I know is I had the same prob on mine, asked the same question on here and that was the advice I got and it worked for me. Might not work for you but its a cheap place to start.

Ever driven a British Auto? They have some funny tranny shifting actions.

On my Speed 4 (yes its no triple) but like you mention 1-2 can be very tricky, to guarantee a shift 1-2 everytime I gotta hit it hard and pull up full everytime is the only advise I can give.

I found as the trans brakes in you need to lift the lever higher.
I adjusted it down more and I stopped missing 2nd. I also
found the brake lever was way to high. At 6' 2" I found
them more comfy.

I have no problems on the 1-2 shift. I think in the 1400 miles I've owned the bike I only hit neutral by accident once. I'm very impressed with the very positive feel from 1-2. Maybe it's just you linkage being loose or dirty in the ball joints.

I was having occasional problems going from 1st to 2nd. I checked the chain and at the tight spot it was a fraction too tight. After adjusting it the problem went away.

Cheers,
