OK, long story short, the #3 bearing on the crankshaft decided to break loose and wreak havoc to the internals of the engine. The crankshaft itself has to be replaced (scored) to the tune of $800 for just the one part. Labor would be the largest cost for the repair to the tune of 10-12 hours of labor. So I'm looking at close to $2000 to put a $4000 (if it were running) bike back on the road. Not worth it in my opinion.

I'm thinking about parting out the bike. I'm thinking I could slowly sell all the bits and pieces separately through discussion boards like Triumphrat.net classifieds or perhaps even go the eBay way. I'd also consider reasonable offers for someone to buy the bike (in pieces now) and all the parts that go with it if they wanted a good rebuild project. What do you all think?

FYI, it's a '99 model (955i) with 33K on the odo, roulette green, located in Roanoke, VA. If no one wants to buy the whole mess, I'm open to hearing about what parts you may want to buy from me. Make me some offers! Email is shell015@cox.net.

I will be buying another Speed Triple ('04 or older), come hell or high water. I love the bike, even though I do have a new D675 (love it too!).

I'll get back to ya. I just started leaking oil after a hard run and am not sure what parts I'm gonna need yet.

Triumph parts, including whole motors, are cheaper than Japanese. 800 dollars, tops, for a good motor. On the other hand, single-sided rears are getting big bucks now on eblank.com
