Curmudgeon is on the right track. In order to get closer to the actual truth we need thefts per registered bike.
Better still are dirt bike thefts included, are they registered?
And events like Bike Week certainly do matter ( the bad guys actually load them into vans in the crowded parking lots with lots of people around because everyone thinks that the bad guys are just one of the many good guys loading/unloading bikes).

Side note: we usually get about one death per day within ten miles of Daytona during Bike Week. last Bike Week almost 300 went to the hospital, 21 died . Drugs ( nope),booze ( nope), the majority were cagers pulling out a front of them or just plain running them down because the cagers were looking at other stuff

I think with FL having such a high rate of MC theft, we all now know how Tracker got his collection! :-D

And how does that list tie in with gun ownership?
Vermont with liberal guns laws seems near the bottom of the list.
No where, considering Ill is only third worse to DC and NY for gun bans yet is right next to VT. One of the reasons I would never move back to Il.

And alot of riders I know in TX, actually most all I know carry
while riding, most legally too. If some cage mows me down he better hope I can't get to my gun because I won't give them a second chance to kill me.

IL gun laws suck! Especially Chicago. I can't even own a handgun here. It's rediculous. At least my bike might not get jacked...though my buddy's did last year.

Arizona is really liberal when it comes to carrying guns ( the old west I guess) and were still at the top any way you calculate it.

Yeah, I live in the south end of the state.....not as strict as Chicago, but compared to my time living in NC I feel like my hands are tied. Chicago has/is actually fighting the newest federal law that allows retired cops to carry. :???: (I'm not a retired cop, but seems like a step in the right direction to me)

Even funnier......PA and FL will grant 'non-resident' concealed carry permits for us that are good in 20 + other states!

Glad to hear I'm not the only motorcycle/gun guy around.

That is the exact WRONG logic the Ill legislators use. When in
fact the only guys with guns are outlaws and guess what ? They don't follow the laws.

Here in TX we carry and will shoot back.

BTW I still have my old expired silly ILL FOID card, what a joke that was.

You are 100% correct in my opinion. The criminals have guns. If I wanted to get an illegal hand gun it would be simple. I don't get it. Makes no sense to me but whatever. Guns are like drugs, they exist, and people who want them will always be able to get to them regardless of the laws.

Strange, I've heard for a while that Hawaii is number one on bike theft stats followed by Cali then Florida.
Actually, that's a bit misleading. I just read the stats recently (wish I could remember where).... the problem isn't Hawai'i, it's Honolulu and Oahu specifically.

So Honolulu MAY rate as the highest CITY with thefts, but I don't believe the state as a whole has the stats to get it's ranking up there.

Here's some stats from Progressive:

Metro Areas In Which A Motorcycle is Most Likely to be Stolen
(among metros with pop. >500,000)
Metro Area - Likelihood vs. National Average of 100 - Population Rank
1. Honolulu, Hawaii 428 53
2. Miami, Fla. 359 22
3. San Diego, Calif. 277 15
4. Las Vegas, Nev. 249 35
5. New York, N.Y.-N.J. 247 1
6. Washington, DC-Md.-Va. 242 8
7. Los Angeles-Long Beach, Calif. 233 2
8. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Fla. 229 29
9. New Orleans, La. 228 41
10. Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Portsmouth, Va.-N.C. 226 47

For the complete story (sadly doesn't list by state) including bikes most likely to be stolen, check the following:
