After a 50 mile ride on Sunday, I pulled into my garage hearing a rattling sound coming from the front of the engine. It almost sounds like the normal running sound of the 955 [ala sewing machine], but louder. I'm positive it's a new sound. I checked for any loose header bolts or other hardware and cleaned my chain, but its still there. Bringing it into the shop on thurs, but I have another trackday this sat. so I need all the insight I can get. Anyone else experience a similar issue?

It seems like the sound comes from the front of the engine. Not loud or distinguishable at idle, but pulling out from a standstill in 1st gear, it gets noticable letting out the clutch going to a roll. It either dissappears or more likely gets drowned out at speed.
TIA.

nyburner..............is it louder or less noticbale with the clutch in?????? I have noticed on mine (see earlier post re: Chain/sprocket noise on decel....) that when I release the clutch (let it out) even in neutral, there is a distinct noise that comes from the lower motor area. In my experience over the years this is somewhat normal on most bikes, but mine has become increasingly louder and louder............even with oil changes every 2500 to 3000 miles...............has me a little concerned as now (as explained in earlier post) I am hearing it while riding on deceleration..............

I doubt I answered or even helped with your original question but it seemed you might be experiencing something similar to what I am............... :???:

nyburner,
I have the same problem. It happens when the motor is under load, right? Prolly the cam chain. Have 'em take a look at that first.

Yeah, I thought it could be the cam chain. It makes a similar sound to what my buddy's F4i [notorious for bad CCT's] made when it got loose.

Anyone here ever adjust their own cam chain?
I figure it should be as easy as taking off the tank, airbox, and the cam cover off the motor...right?
