Have a 2004 S3 with 11,000 miles on the clock and in the last couple of days I have noticed a noise becoming increasingly louder coming from the front sprocket/chain area upon deceleration. When I pull the clutch in the noise stops, when I release the clutch while decelerating I hear what sounds like someone scuffing their shoes over and over again across a hard floor (for lack of a better explanation.....). It sounds like it is coming from the front sprocket. The chain is adjusted properly, clean, and I checked the front sprocket to make sure it was tight. Can't see anything wrong "externally" that would make that kinda noise. Sounds like the noise might be coming from "inside" the drive train somewhere...............any one else experience this on their S3??????? Any input would be greatly appreciated................... :???:

I got that when I had a 44tooth rear and a stock 18t front sprocket, now I have gone to 45tooth rear and 17tooth front I don't get any chain noise...

Thx for the input gstar...........I actually did replace the sprockets and chain back when she had about 2000k miles on her. Used renthal sprockets and a DIY chain. Put a package on to make the gears a little taller since I do a lot of hwy riding......made an awesome difference to me and I really like the gearing on the bike with this set-up.......anyways, always had a "little" noise coming form the chain/sprocket, (both the stcok packager and the aftermarket set-up) but nothing like this. Just seems to be getting worse and worse over the past few days.......gonna clean up and adj the chain again this weekend just to make sure all is good.

cheap,

wear looks great...............very minimal thus far. I am thinking the chain might be a little dry as it has been EXTREMELY hot out here and I have gone about 600 - 700 miles since my last chain cleaning/lube. Would just hate for it to be something more that could be taken care of before it gets worse.............no perfomance issues what so ever..............just noise.
