As soon as I got home from MotoGP, there was a box of BRAKING Wave Rotors waiting for me! After only one bloody knuckle, I got them installed, and took some pics.

I also received my Magura radial master cylinder, and Goodridge 2-line kit (all black lines and fittings), but won't get them installed for another day or two.

The front rotors were 3/4 lb. (each) lighter than OEM, for a total of 1.5lb savings. That will make a significant reduction in rotating mass (gyroscopic effect), thus resulting in quicker turn-in. I had about the same weight savings when I put them on my R1, and it made a tremendous impact on handling.

The carriers are a graphite grey which is a very close match to the wheels. They really look good together.

The rear rotor was also 3/4 lb lighter than stock. Combined with the weight savings I made with switching from the OEM steel to aluminum Renthal sprocket, it is a lot less weight that the motor has to turn!

Very sharp looking bike, man. Love the turn signals, the Sargent seat rocks, and those waves are totally cool lookin'. Now, add some carbon fiber cans, ditch the passenger pegs and the pixie hat, and you'd have PRECISELY the bike I want eventually (it's all about the Benjamins, eh?).

I'm not sure I'd replace the rotors just for the he11 of it, but when the time comes, I'm gonna haff to git me some o' those. Powdercoat the forks black, and that thing would be totally evil.

Now, for the more tech-savvy, riddle me this:

These wave rotors are all the rage, trendy even. And admittedly they look utterly bitchin' and I want some. But other than weight, is there any significant performance advantage? I mean, seems to me, surface area is reduced some, which is not necessarily a good thing. However, with the slight arcs along the circumference, I suppose that offers somewhat more surface area for cooling, right?

Reminds me somewhat of the Fat Tire craze, where everyone figured 190s or bigger were the way to go, claimed better performance from more rubber on the road, etc. But now folks are realizin' that handling's better with skinnier tires and going back.

But the waves DO look ultra cool, and face it - the more black you can add, the better :-D

supposed to displace heat better and prevent brake fade.

Thanks for the compliments. I have a few other items in the garage waiting to be installed, so it's only going to get more trick within the next couple of weeks.

Wave Rotors won't necessarily give you more stopping power. The lighter weight lightens steering, and the design of the rotor helps keep it cool. There is also less chance of warpage on these rotors.

So...your rotors will remain flat, they will reduce heat, you will have quicker handling, and the cool-factor is major! They'll set you back about $450 for all 3 rotors.

A very nice mod indeed

Please give us an update after some miles and let us know if you still like them. I have known some people who have put Galfers on other bikes and switched them back due to warpage and excessive brake pad wear.
I think they looks bad ass and its a great performance mod at the same time, :upthumb:

Thanks. I don't have experience with Galfers, but I do with Braking. I had them on my R1...lots of street and hard track time with no problems or complaints whatsoever. Since the S3 will be getting nowhere near the level of hard braking that the R1 did (even though I will be doing track days on it), I'm sure I'll be just as happy with these.

Looks really good TSC. I'm interested to see more pics after you get everything else installed.

I've got the same rotors on order for my 03 from PJ's. They might start carrying these on a regular basis if there is enough interest.

They're also supposed to 'scrub' the pads a bit better with all the holes so you have a lower likelyhood of getting bits of grit stuck between the pad and rotor causing uneven wear and noise.

Can't wait to get mine!
