Not sure if anyone has posted this before, but Triumph is aware of the brake issue and has finally addressed it at the root of the problem. Like a lot of you I've had the severe brake lever pull issue. It's been back to the dealer twice for bleeding and I mentioned it again a couple of months ago. They called Triumph and was told to replace the whole brake assembly (lever to calipers) which Triumph would send over the pond soon. I guess Triumph decided against that and went in a couple of different directions; meanwhile the brakes did not get fixed. Well, today (they're not open Sunday or Monday) I got a call that Triumph has developed a kit to address the issue and mine is in stock. The kit consists of all-new seals and hardware for the calipers; they acknowledged that the issue was that the seals were not retracting properly. In addition, the kit specifies a new bleeding procedure due to the fact that air gets trapped in the "T" fitting. I'll get it installed next week (going camping for 5 days) and give you all an update then.

Roadbuilder,
I had the warrenty seals kit etc done to my bike & the effect lasted about two weeks. Since then I've had my first year service and also paid to have a 5/8mc & a new Rizzoma resevoir, which after one ride seems ok but I'm not getting my hopes up. It's now getting to the point where if this fix doesn't work I'm going to take the bike back to the dealers & ask them to either fix the problem properly or give me my money back. What really annoys me is the fact that the motorcycle press are aware of the problem but wont seemingly say anything to upset Triumph.

I bolted on some calipers from a 05 GSXR 1000 and that seems to have done the trick.

RoadBuilder, are you in Fishers as in Fishers, IN? Me too. If so, then I assume you're talking to Tim and the guys at Indy Triumph about this. I'm glad to hear it. I'm headed by the dealership today and plan on discussing with them. Hope this fixes the issue...I'm tired of crushing my knuckles!

I emailed my Dealer on this issue:

Have you guys heard of this brake kit that several people are claiming Triumph has put together to fix the mushy brakes on the new Speed Triple? See text below or go to:

http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...54458&forum=19

If not, can you please forward this email to Triumph Australia for their comment/response.

Is it true that the Daytona 675 caliper pistons have a coating that the Speed Triple caliper pistons do not have? My brakes are still unacceptably spongy and getting worse.

Thanks,

To which he replied:

As per recent conversations with the Triumph Australia technical & warranty adviser, there is no recall or recognized problem with the brakes, Triumph use a high m/cylinder to caliper piston ratio. This gives good braking however the bike was always intended as a city bike not a race bike. The master cylinder assy can be changed (to radial lever) to improve braking performance. This is done at customers perogitive as mods to factory braking system is not a standard practise due to litigation issues, ie. Its not there fault if you change the lever assembly and your brakes fail, or put you over the handlebars.

I am very sorry I cant help you more with this issue, as we can only go by what Triumph tells us, the Daytona 675 uses the same calipers, but has a different lever assy. This lever would improve the performance of the brakes, but must be done a consumers own risk & expenses.

Sounds very much like what he's really saying is "Even though I've seen and felt the mushy brakes, I am denying everything because our corporate lawyers have recommended we should refuse to admit anything until we absolutely have no other choice". Oh well I can't really blame the Dealer in many ways I guess, but Triumph (Australia at least) are playing hardball on this.

If anyone comes up with anything written from Triumph admitting the problem, or offering free replacement parts to fix the problem, please be sure to post it here.

my dealer has already mentioned the new s3's have the coated pistons that the 675 has. he submitted a warranty claim for me 1 1/2 weeks ago. i am going to check with him this weekend to see what the status is.

i really would like to get this fixed under warranty if possible. otherwise, i can live with it.
