I was reading the directions today on Power Commanders website about installing my PC and it says I must remove the tank. Can you gurus out there give me some tips or pointers? I'm sure having the tank near empty helps, but what else? Are there quick disconnects on the tank?

there are vac lines on the left (sitting on the bike) 3 or 4 depnding on the bike

one on the right

quick disconnects for the fuel lines. have vac caps at the ready as those lines SQUIRT!

many people say they mangle the O rings on the disconnects but i have yet to do so (3 tank removals) so have some ready???

there are 2 electrical connections you have to remove as well

they can be a pain...its nice to have someone hold the tank up while you fiddle with them...if not, get a sheet or something soft to rest the tank up on the risers/bars

just keep in mind where things went

If you removed the tank on your multistrada then this one is a piece of cake. Remove the bolt in the front and back, disconnect the 2 drain lines, (pay attention to which one has the flow control in the hose). Disconnect the fuel line, and then the electrical connection to the fuel pump. Have some rags handy to catch any gas spills. I think that is it.

I marked one of the vacuum lines and the nipple it attaches to with a Sharpie.

Otherwise you will have no idea of which hose went where on re-assembly.

One of the vacuum lines has a in-line directional valve in it, So it doesn't spill fuel (I think).
I am sure you will want it hooked up right.

I had a vacuum problem when I didn't re-assemble the vacuum lines correct the first time.

For anyone that has installed a Power Commander, was it necessary to remove the tank?

How much fuel comes out? On the Multistrada the in tank fuel pump kept any from coming out of the tank, it was the hoses that a bit came out of.

disconnect the negative battery cable first. The manual sez to do it... I figured out why... if you disconnect the lead it depressurizes the fuel line so it won't spew... it will drip a tad... but won't blow.

Super easy job... it's the airbox that is a little tricky...

My fuel line didn't spill a drop when I disconnected it, although I was ready as I didn't know what was going to happen. My tank was full at the time, no problems other than it was heavier than if it was empty.

The airbox is pretty simple if you remember to karate chop it to get it back on the throttle bodies.

Not much fuel at all. Most of it was from the hose. There are a lot of electronics right under the fuel connection though. Just cover them with a few rags and you will be fine.

When installing the Power Commander you'll have to remove the fuel tank and the bolts that holds the radiator overflow tank. This is so you can get the in-line connectors from the PC to the injector connectors. My advice is RTFM.

Isn't the fuel line depressurized when the key is off anyway? I figured the manual says to disconnect the battery cable to reduce the risk of sparks.
