It was sickly hot. You could hear the ambulances all weekend dragging people with heat stroke down the hill. I camped out for the weekend. Got there on Thurs. night. (Side note - Tecate & OJ makes a great poormosa. Nice way to start the day :-D ) Spent Friday and Saturday checking out the vendors and watching the practice sessions. That's where these pics are from. On Saturday we snuck into the start/finish line grandstands. Those tix were all sold out by the time I bought mine. Got to watch the GP practice session and the AMA Superbike race from there.
The track temp was up to about 150 deg. On Sunday they canceled all racing and practice sessions between about 10.30am and the GP race at 2 due to the track heat. For the main event I sat up on the hill overlooking the straight between turns 4 and 5. You can see about 2/3 or the track from up there. Almost everthing from turn 11 through turn 5, so that was cool. Close up action during the practice sessions and the overview for the actual race.
There is nothing I know of that sounds like that Honda RC211V V5 motor at full throttle. From a quarter mile away you can feel it in your gut.
Pedrosa is definitely the kid to keep your eye on. He's having an incredible first season with the big boys. Helps that he's the current and two time 250 GP Champion...
Camping was totally the way to go. We were on the road within 45 minutes of getting in the car. Last year driving in was such a freakin' nightmare there was no way I was going to do that again. Next time there will be bikes involved. It seemed like those guys were in and out of there so fast.
Here are the best pictures that I got:
