Just put one on and I LOVE it! Definitely a must do mod IMHO! Stock gearing was way to tall for my liking. First is sooooo tall l thought I was starting out in second! Going from the stock 18T front to a 17T was a snap to install, got a JT sprockets #JTF1180-17 through my local motorcycle shop. Apparantly they can get them from parts umlimited. You thought acceleration was good on the stock 18T sprocket. WOW, I am loving it now! Added about 400 RPMs to my freeway cruzing speed, so not a big deal! Just thought I would share my .02! FUN, FUN, FUN! :-D

Hey cyclerider! My first post...I put on a "17" too, but keep an eye on the chain-guard on your swing arm. A smaller sprocket will cause the chain to wear THROUGH the guard, then into your swingarm.
It adds a lot of "Snap" to take-offs, though..

These have an 18t stock? That is huge. I installed 15t on both my Aprilias and my Ducati had a 14! I thought the stock gearing on my S3 felt about perfect. This is probably the first bike I've owned that 6th gear was actually usable on!

I think stock gearing is about perfect, too. First gear "stock"about threw my ass off, but that "17" tooth would've threw me a little further!! :-D
It still shows 140 mph, indicated. Good enough for the likes of me!

I got the S3 as a Hooligan bike and the 17T makes it even more so! With a naked bike the top speed isn't that important to me because of wind blast and of course tickets! I just Love the grin on my face when I twist the trottle.

I had a 44T rear installed on mine (42 stock) and love the results. Stop and go around town work is easier, and now the front comes up in second gear with no tug at the bars.

I do a lot of highway riding, and I would really like to see a taller sixth gear, but even with the shorter final gearing, highway cruising (80 mph indicated) isn't bad at all.

+1! 17T front (-1 tooth) is just slightly lower gearing than +2 on the rear. I did the front cause it was easier to do! enjoy!
