Took a ride out to East Hampton, Long Island from Northern New Jersey Saturday morning to visit friends. I left at 7am and there was no to light traffic the whole way. The morning ride was great b/c it had not yet gotten hot out. Rode squid wearing a t-shirt and sneakers cause I didn't have the luxury of fitting much in a backpack. Had trouble shifting smoothly with sneakers and i wouldn't recommend it. There is alot of open road out at the end of LI where you can really open her up but no real twisties. Top speed 120 mph. The ride home Sunday was almost as fun but I left mid day and it was hot as hell. I got 135 miles on 3.2 gallons of premium gas, avg = 42 miles per gallon, not bad.

Trip:
Took 280 east to NJ turnpike thru the Lincoln and midtown tunnel, then a straight shot on the LIE for 90 miles. Total one way was 115 miles.

I rode from Chicago, IL to Lansing, MI and back (on different day) this weekend. Me and a backpack (looking for proper luggage). My fuel indicator would come on at about 125-130 miles. I just missed the rain on the way out there Friday but had nothing but sun on the way back. Speed ranged from about 85-144 and not much below unless in traffic. My CF Triumph tank pad was lifting due to excessive speed so I had to buy some double sided tape/foam for some extra stick. Is fine now. I wore sneakers and almost always do without any problems shifting, though I'm looking for boots to start wearing more regularly for safety purposes.

4 hours and 10 to get there which is pretty long cuz of hella traffic. 3 hours and 30 to get home with lots of contruction along way and some city traffic in Chicago.

Did I mention it was F'n hot as sh!t all weekend in IL and MI? Probably similar to what KarmaPunk experienced in NYC. Sitting in traffic==pure sweat. Had a good hour of that just trying to get out of Chicago on Friday. Oh well. Life's a biatch. Extra hot in my leather jacket, jeans, and gel padded bike shorts used to try to save my ass. Even though I popped Advil before leaving each way, my @ss would be soar after about an hour and a half on the stock seat. One 10-15 minute stop for gas and brain altertness check each way relieved @ss pain.
