Getting the caps off is easy enough. Getting through the cat wont be easy. The rest of the innards are quite stout also. I would not attempt it. Keep your cans stock so you can go back.

I considered this as well but I think it could lead to disaster unless your name is Pops Yoshimura.

Also it could adversly effect the mapping etc. But if it was as simple as drilling out the rivets and removing a baffle I recon it wuld have been tried.

If you attempt it good luck as you could discover the holy grail of a nice sounding cheap modification !!! :hammer:

Here is a link. I decided to go for TORs or wolf cans. More money, less risk and headache... Good luck!

A couple of guys have done this surgery with okay results. One guy (don't remember who) claimed you shouldn't even think about unless you're a good TIG welder. Of course he completely disassembled the thing, which you needn't do.

Several guys have reached in and drilled out the baffle with long drill bits and reported good results. I can't imagine but it would be easier to do if you removed the end cap.

I'm sure you would need to have the TOR map installed after doing any of this.

The good news is that removing the end caps isn't going to destroy anything, so there's no reason why you can't do a little experiment. Once the caps are off then you will see if you can go any further. I hear that it's difficult to actually get the internals out (Hence cutting the barrel and welding it back together), but if you just want to open it up to make it a little louder it might be worth it. You aren't going to realize any horsepower gains to speak of though.

If you want loud forget it. Even between stock and TORS there is only a little difference in loudness.
The effort to disassemble gut out and re-assemble the stock cans is just not worth the effort.

Keep the stock cans for when the man in the white coat with the sound and pollution probe examines your bike.

I'm very happy with my Trident carbon fiber 1/2 pipe system. Keeps the stock muffler layout/styling. Nice deep tone, good power. I got mine without the little spigots on the outlets. Even stubbier than the pic.

My standard cans were modified by a local stainless worker.Standard cans do a few loops before they exit, what he did was basically made them straight throughs leaving the middle flap(you can see this when you look inside the hole)and made the exit pipe bigger, flaring the ends over to suit. The sound is just right i think.I noticed response was crisper even without a new tune but at my next srvice they installed a update tune(don't know what it was and it was even better response wise.
