Having heard the modern twin opened up, I'd really like to hear what the triple has to say, and a few more horses never hurt.

I'm waiting to hear back from my dealer, who wants $470 for the cans and an hour and a half of labor to install 'em and do the tune. I e-mailed him back and asked how much for just the remap, since I can unscrew bolts as good as the next guy (except maybe Tracker - anyone whose garage is THAT clean and organized must have one he11 of a case of OCD).

Any idea what a remap should cost?

I've thought about other aftermarket pipes, but aside from some of the carbon fiber models and oldsquid's (both kinda pricey), I haven't found any I like better lookswise than the stockers, so I figured TORs would be the way to go.

The other option would be to put that $500 in the bank and save it for a track bike (an idea which, surprisingly, the SO supports) :yayyy:

Service guys will probably be d_i_c_ks and charge you an hour but they should only charge for 1/2 hr. All they have to do is hook it up to the computer and change the map setting from 1 to 2.

My dealer charged me $15 for the remap, previously he'd done it free for others.............

Get yourself a Tuneboy and do all the remaps and a lot more besides for a few $$$ more.

BTW TORS cans is what the bike should have come standard with. The stock cans make the bike sound like an asthmatic sewing machine. Remapping the TORS gives the bike brilliant response and gets rid of the fireworks. Looks the best (except for Squid's and the Zard) and is not too expensive.
Me I like a bit more soul stirring sound (blame our neibghours the Italians) when I unleash the ponies, so Zard it had to be. Also hated the stock headers which look like a plumber's nightmare.

Limey, I might take ya up on that if you return from Hillbilly Country unscathed :-D

And yeah, I thought about the PC or Tuneboy (da*n I miss carburetors and jets - not as simple, but a lot cheaper) but I probably wouldn't use it that much, so I dunno if I could justify the expense.

Then again, if they want too much for the map, I just might.

Any idea what all's involved in that? Does Triumph have their own dedicated and proprietary Gizmo that they plug in, or is it just some Triumph software on a PC with a USB cable hookup? I mean, I can't see where it would take more than 10 minutes - including the time to roll it in the bay and remove the seat.

Avi8or, you are right on the money. Why event sell the S3 with stock cans? (Rhetorical!) I am sitting on an badA$$ engine and my exhaust sounds like I am riding a scooter. Thats why I just got a set of Arrow exhaust installed.

Carbs are ok but when it comes to rejetting FI has got to be the way to go. It used to take me loads of time to pull out and refit the carbs on the kawi for a simple jet change. Needles weren't too bad but jets always had me out in a sweat especially getting the friggin' airbox back on.

With S3 FI and tuneboy (or PC) you just connect the supplied cable to a laptop and the connector under the seat, and download to the bike whatever mods you've made to the map. You don't even have to take off the tank.

The Triumph gizmo at my dealer is a sort of T shaped thingie (probably reflecting it's Triumph origins) with a small numeric window and a few buttons.
