Hi guys, I thinking about buying some of the tankslapper film to put on my tank. My Speedy is black, and I really dont want to have to see the film. According to their website, the 3m stuff is shinier, but permanent, unliuke the tankslapper version....I'm leaning toward the 3m stuff. (my wife has the 3m clear bra on her car, and you can only see the line where it ends..but her car is red) I'm just wondering how invisible this will be on black bike.

Anyone got any pictures of it installed?

Thanks!

I have the 3M film on my tank, and have used this for my past six or so bikes. Just cut it to the shape you want and put it on. It'll initially have some air bubbles, but when left in the sun on a couple of afternoons they come out. It doesn't leave marks when taken off, and it looks great on the black paint. I'll try to do a picture for you when I get home.

As I posted once before - there is a company over here in the UK (think the head office is actually in the USA) called APF, I have a one piece film that goes from one side of the tank round the back to the other so it's protected from my knees and my jacket. They do a complete kit for the 1050 but the knee and centre parts are seperate, inc front mudgaurd etc.

I tried to take a photo of it but you cant see it - apart from the top edge. Check out the website to see how REALLY tough this stuff is.

I have the tankslapper film on my white 06 - its pretty much invisible untill you get about 2 feet away. Very easy to apply and protects good.

Have the tankslapper on my black S3. You can see it up close but most people dont even notice it. Air bubles are visible but overall pretty happy with it.

cheers,

I have the Tank Slapper on my black 06. Application is a PITA if your a perfectionist like me. ANY piece of lint or other debris will make a small air pocket that looks like A$$.

Overall it is barely noticeable and with the Slapper you can peel it off and reapply if not perfect. I did it about 4 times before I settled on a few imperfections. Main thing is its easily removable and protects the paint. Since the tank is plastic and other protection must glue down I thinks its the way to go IMO.

Thanks for the help guys.

Dobie, do you have any pics of your bike with the tank slapper on? Being able to remove it is definatly a plus. (I too am a perfectionist / neat freak, and like to wax my ride alot.)

I was just worried it would end up looking like ***** with all the air bubbles.

Still not sure if I should get the 3m or the tank slapper. I really don't want it to be noticeable. Silver and white are great colors for the stuff, as it should be REALLY hard to see.

I think it would be hard to even see the film in a picture but I will try later and see. It can be applied perfectly with out any bubbles but the surface must be pristine and I could never get it 1000% and after about 4 times of letting it dry out overnight and adjusting the next day I finally settled that it wasn't going to be completely perfect to my eye.
Having been able to peel it off and move it around as may times a necessary to get it where I wanted it was the only way I would try it. The other application looked like if you made a mistake it was done and over.
Buy it, its cheap does the job and if you get tired of it or find something else to use you can peel it off in less than 10 seconds like it was never there.

I agree with Dobie that the tankslapper is a bit of a PITA to apply "perfectly", and that it isn't very noticeable. However, the plastic is fairly soft and it looks to have gotten a little scuffed. If the light is right, the scuff marks do show up a bit. That said, I am happy with it overall.
