On Saturday I had new tires put on. This wasn't at a dealership - just my local bike shop. When I picked the bike up and took it for a ride I noticed a ticking sound coming from the front brakes when I apply them. No sound when I'm not braking. Of course, I took it straight back and left it there. The mechanic won't be in until tomorrow to look at it.

One of the guys at the shop said that it's 'normal' and that it's due to a gap between the brake pads and the bolt that goes through and holds them. I'm not buying it. He's not the mechanic and won't be the one looking at it.

It has never made this sound before and it started only when they had replaced the tire. I just want to have as much info as possible before I hear back from them. Have any of you heard this kind of noise before? I'm thinking they may have dinged the rotor or the caliper when they took the wheel off.

I'm having the same sound on mine. I'm very curious as to why.

I had the same thing on mine after a brake bleed, I used a flat screw driver between the brake pads and disk to push the pads back and re-pumped them back, Ticking was gone.

I believe it was a stuck caliper... has never ticked since.

Simple enough to try and eliminate at least one possibility.

I had a similar problem on my old ZX-6R except the noise went away when applied the brakes. Figured it was a retention sping or something.

It's one or more of the floaters on a rotor. Grab a rotor and wobble it back and forth to find, add a small touch of lube to the offending floater and your done. They get dirt and ***** in them, and cause creaking...

If it's more like a thunk it might be your headstock bearings. Common issue on new S3's. Needs to be tightened. You can test it by applying the brake rapidly at any speed and you'll hear it...

Unless you're referring to a constant ticking while in motion...

Grab your front disk by hand and try to move it back and forth as if rotating it. If you hear the same ticking as it moves on its floating mounts, there's nothing to worry about. It may go away then come back later etc., but that's normal.

Thanks for all the info. They're going to look at it tomorrow morning and I'll see what they have to say. The reason I'm really concerned about it is that I'd never heard it before they worked on it over the weekend so it feels like it's related to that.
