I can see, with my helmet on, as much as I can see with it off (Shoei RF-1000). No vision impairment what so ever. I can't hear **** at 60MPH anyway, from the rushing wind, or from my loud ass Mivv, so I wear ear-phones or ear-plugs. I am not sure what I should be listening for anyways...schreetching brakes, sirens? Both can be easily taken care of with visual alertness and proactive riding. Taking a rock to the face can also be a major factor in whether you crash or not. Up here in the NW there is a lot of gravel, after fall, winter, and spring, on the fun twisty roads, so this happens on a regular basis for me.
Also there is no such thing as a hermetically sealed helmet. They are all open on the bottom, so that you can put your head in to it.
Hey man listen...only you know what you like and perceive as danger. What ever you go with good luck out there.
