Has anyone checked oil temperatures in his 1050? When I change the oil, I'm always surprised how cool is the oil. I'm kind of thinking the engineers switched to the smaller oil cooler because the oil stays too cool with the larger one. Thoughts?

I'm thinking of checking the oil temperature next time I change it. What is the ideal oil temperature under normal operating conditions. I'm thinking maybe 220 degrees---hot enough to boil off water/condensation, but not so hot as to cause the oil to break down prematurely. Thoughts?

By the way, my '06 has the larger oil cooler.

220 F is just about ideal but up to 250 is fine. I have never checked it.

Thanks. I should add that last time I changed the oil, I'd been riding the bike for a couple hours and removed the drain plug immediately after I shut off the engine. The oil wasn't hot enough to really be uncomfortable to my hand through (thin) nitrile gloves.

EDIT: Having reviewed the chapter in the service manual, it seems that the bike does not have a thermostat.

If my casual impression of the low oil temperature is right, perhaps the bikes with larger oil coolers have oil coolers that are too large for regular street use?!
