So it seems that original Battlax BT-010R rear wheel is
in the end of its life (5800km /3600miles).

Have anybody experience what would the anticipated
mileage with Pirelli Diablo be ?

Am I doing something wrong?

I have a little over 7K miles on my original 010's and there's plenty of tread left (not down to the wear bars yet). The front is starting to cup a little bit on the edges and the rear is tad squared off, but nothing major.

After reading about all you guys replacing tires at 3K miles, I had my dealer take a look at mine at the 6K service and he said they looked fine and I should expect to get to at least 8K miles before having to replace them due the bike's light weight...

Keep in mind I always check my tire pressure before a long ride and don't do any burnouts or other nonsense...

I don't push it too hard in the twisties, but I don't quite ride it like a Harley either... I focus more on being smooth and picking a good line than speed...

I got 4.5K out of my Diablo (down to the cords). Got 6.5K out of the 020 before that. I've read that if you use lots of engine braking, that will wear rear tires faster. I almost exclusively use engine braking on the road (aside from stop signs, etc). I do a mix of commuting, easy/fun country sweepers and twisties. There's lots of life left on the sides, but the middle gets shot (commuting and mellow sweepers for ya). I try to be smooth and don't hammer the throttle on corner exits, but I *am* on the gas.

3K miles?? Yikes...I've taken my rear tire edge to edge already...man...I certainly hope it lasts for more than that...I've already got about 1700 miles!!!

I've managed to get almost 5000 miles out of the tires but I'm shopping already for some new sneakers, still partial to avon av 45/46 but I've also heard from some triple owners to check into the michelin pilot roads, great mileage. I have a 24 mile commute to work but since riding around Laconia for bike week I've put some mega miles on her and I still have this coming weekend to go. I have a friend who just shod a ZX-11 with some Conti road attacks so I'll let you guys know about the mileage, very cheap tires especially for the 190 rear, a bit over $120 USD. Hope this helps

Garry,

Thanks for your comment regarding Diablos. I am satisfied with grip I've got with 010, but I'm not totally satisfied with wearing. That why I've considered to replace 010s with Diablos.

I've seen others 010's gone in 'ugly' condition on the sides after a track-day. Besides, I checked today my front tire and notice there is a ripple in surface (luckily it doesn't have any affects to ridability..)

Most of my driving is fun driving in the countryside twisties. I've been using 2.2bar in the front and 2.9bar in the rear as suggested in user manual.

I don't consider being very hard driving, although I use quite a much engine braking, which may somewhat explain the short life of my rear wheel.

I must comment also that I've driven the 3.6K during the springtime; from mid April until now. And here in Finland we have 'very rough' road surface during the spring (from march to may) because the most of the cars are using studs in their winter tires and also lots of sand is thrown on the tarmac during the wintertime. There is a really a big difference in the mileage you get compared between spring and summer/fall.

br, Panu

i'm using metzler mez4's they appeared to wearing well up to around 4k but some winter abuse with salt and gravel on welsh roads seemed to kill them off pretty quickly. My fresh pair aren't breaking in to well and keep leaving black squirlies on the road coming out of tight bends, this looks impresive but sooner or later it will end in spoiled paintwork. :-g

How about some 020's. Similar profile to the 010's just a little less sticky and a lot harder wearing. I think they might even be a bit cheaper. I just put another 010 on the rear, as I have a part worn 010 on the front. I reckon on about 4,000 miles then I am going to swap them for 020s. I ran 020s a few years ago on my Blackbird and they were great. Knee and peg scraping was still fairly easy and they were still on the bike when I sold it, having covered over 5,000 miles. I did have some Dunlop 208's on my Daytona, before I swapped it for the Speed Triple and they were "pants". After about 3,000 they were looking very sorry for themselves and I didn't really get on with the quicker steering profile. I ride a BMW for work which is fitted with Pirellis and they have been great, but only get about 3/4,000 miles as it's a big heavy old tourer.... :-D

just out of curiosity, what pressure you guys running your tires at on the street? Running at the recommended 36/42, I got my knee down with confidence, which surprised the hell out of me quite honestly.

having gone to the track on my SV, they recommended 30/30, I can't imagine bringing the Triple down that low...
