I'm curious if anyone has attempted this idea yet. I have a Ventura rack for my bike but miss having a waterproof, lockable place to keep my electronics, money, etc when on the road.

The Venture hangs a bag off the back; why not bolt a top box to a spare passenger seat (also something I have) and double-up the space?

Anyone tried this or considered it? I might just have to do it.

Or they even make this jobby with a padded backrest of those long days on the slab.

Thoughts, concerns, issues?

If you have to buy the givi case SW MOTECH make a rack to take the hardcase with an adapter which sits out the back, can get them at twistedthrottle.com or noRRus.com.But then i guess you lose out on the extra Ventura bag.Sounds like a good idea,i would hunt around for a secondhand hardcase just in case it doesn't work out.I would also remove the padding of your spare seat to stop it wobbling around.Plastic mounted to plastic would be better than mounted to foam.I guess when you mount the two together use big diameter washers(like mudgaurd washers),might give it more strengh, maybe even a bit of super glue too where the surfaces contact before you bolt them together.
Good luck.

I use a Givi V46 on my S3. It attaches to a Givi E250 mounting plate bolted to the Triumph cast rack. Works great, and leaves the passenger seat for lashing additional krap on the odd occasion I need to.

Mounting to the passenger seat is interesting, but might make it tough to swing your leg over.

skeepee, I like that a lot. I just couldn't bring myself to fork out the cash for the mass amount of $$$ triumph wants for that rack.

Catamount, some mates of mine do exactly what you are suggesting, one has a ZX6R, the other an R6. Works well, easy to fit/remove, cheap and keeps the weight of the luggage closer to the CoG.

If you must fit a top box to a Speed Triple, then bolt it to the pillion seat. (Unless you want to carry a pillion )

No need to remove the seat padding, but do use some large diameter washers to spread the load on the bottom of the top box .

It is a rip - too bad the aftermarket didn't have a cheaper alternative!

Why anyone would spoil the beutiful lines of an S3 with a box bolted to it is beyond me. I ride to get away from all my stuff not drag it around with me. Just my 2 cents.

How do you propose I travel for 5+ days at a time on my S3 without carrying anything?

Unfortunately I don't have the disposable income that would allow me to purchase and dispose of clothing, toiletries, food, cameras at ever stop.

If you're riding to escape life, a top-box is the least of your problems. The box on my S3 makes it more likely that I will use my bike instead of my car on any given day. To me, nothing's more beautiful than that.
