Here in England its OK to fly the flag but only when there is a bit sporting event on. Most other times its seen as "not good form".

Generally you wouldnt see the Union Flag much if at all. Unlike in Scotland and Wales or France or Greece where i've seen plenty of their flags flying especially on public building. (Not too sure of other countries).

Anyway as the World cup is on I've got my favourite flag out; not the George Flag or the Union Flag but the Royal Navy Ensign. Its a bit of both. Great to show joint loyalty to England and Britain.

We fly our flag quite often, and many people in our neighborhood do the same. Flying the Stars and Stripes is considered proper at all times.

I do not fly my country's colors as I do not feel I have the time to display them in the appropriate manner. Actually, I am very proud of my country's colors and respect them in the deep way that only someone who has served under those colors can.

It is my opinion that we should cut back on the display somewhat as some folks do not seem to understand the importance of respectfulness while displaying them. Our countries have a deep, rich history of sacrifice for what our colors represent and I don't think a lot of people understand that.

I am not an emotional man. I haven't cried since I was a child. But every time I stand for my country's national anthem I have to fight the deep swelling of my heart that comes from the thought of what men have had to endure for our freedoms in the past and for what our men and women in uniform voluntarily do today.

With the world cup on, there's a whole bunch of Jacks and Italian flags flying around togrther with an occasional Brazilian or German.

Too many footie nutters in this place.

I don't because I don't understand who the audience is. I live in Va so there are Americans all around me. Am I trying to let everyone know that I too am American? I just don't quite get the point.

I don't feel like I have to show my support for the US. I spent 8 years in the army, So my support is pretty evident.

It might make more sense for me to fly the SC flag since that's where I'm from and I don't think there are a lot of Carolinians around here.

If I lived in another country I might show the flag.

It does bother me when someone is flying the flag and they don't take care of it. I've often been tempted to buy a new flag for the people down the street who have been flying the same faded tattered flag for years.

Yes, but the point about flying the flag on public buildings doesn't go down well here.
At work (fire station) we have been banned from flying the flag in case we upset any minority sentiments.

Wow, that is amazing you guys in the UK can't show your pride in your country by flying a flag...

Here we can whenever, however, there ARE certain "rules" for flying the flag that most people here either, don't know, or ignore. Frankly, I get pretty ticked seeing a tattered flag flying in all kinds of weather or at night without lights on it, or whatever... I too have a strong patriotic drive and won't fly my flag unless I can do it right as well... It's just a respect thing for me...
