Just took my Speed Triple in for it's 1st service and my dealer lent me a Bonnie for a few hours. What a laugh I'm having. That bike is ace. Reving the nuts out of it without worrying about losing the back end on the wet roads. If only I could afford to run two bikes, I'd sign up for one today.
Hope that doesn't mean I'm ready to grow a beard, smoke a pipe and wear slippers?

I know the feeling. I took a Scrambler for a test ride a couple of days ago and it's fun. I didn't like the high pipes, but I can see having a Thruxton - sorta a when-I-grow-up-I'm-gonna-be-a-speed-triple. There's all kinds of mods and goodies, and it has actual carburetors, so you don't have to spring for a power commander or other computer gizmos.
Twisting the throttle was a revelation, though. Wring it out and it just sorta eases on. Very tame - made me really appreciate the power of the 1050.

Yup. I already have der beemerschooter and the speedy. A Thruxton would be a great money pit - endless cool mods for a really old-school cafe racer look.

I know the feeling, I've had both a Thruxton and a bonneville as loaners for a day on different occasions and I cant stop thinking about them, they were very cool and very fun.
I'm certain one day I'm going to have one. The bonnie particularly stuck in my mind as it was a nice warm spring day and the enjoyment of taking things easy for a spell and enjoying the scenery and the easy going ride was fantastic, not to mention the number of 'oldsters' I noticed giving it a serious looking over.

Rude, if you keep it up, you'll have your own Triumph dealership! Next you need to ride the Rocket, yeah it's huge, but so is the power delivery!!! :-D

Let's just hope he doesn't test ride a Boss Hoss.
Really, the Bonnevilles are the shiznit, as long as you don't plan on going anywhere too fast.

My dealer are pretty cool when it comes to loan bikes when my Speed Triple has been in for service, I had all black Bonnie first time.. that was great, lovely and low, felt great ! (apart from the old motorway!)
Had a fantastic Triumph Scrambler one time with the fruity loud pipes !! that was totally great, the amount of looks I got going up the road on that bad boy... I would have one of each if the garage was big enough !!!

Thanks guys, you just made me realise what a lucky sod I am to have both bikes! Now if it would just stop raining and blowing a gale I could get out and ride . English summers can be c**p

I really like the Bonneville's too. My very first bike, many years ago, was a '66 Bonnie, and I'm planning on getting one of the new ones soon as a second bike.

I know what you mean. I took one home the other day while my new panniers were being installed on my 05 Sprint. I had no idea how sporty the bonnie is. The one I rode had the Triumph aftermarket pipes to give it great sound, not too loud though. The Bonneville just ripes up twisty, bumpy roads. Surprisingly well sorted suspension for that kind of duty. While I love my sprint and consider it the best one bike for me to own, I'm looking forward to the day when I can pick up a used Bonneville to blast (and putt, sometimes) around on the narrow country roads where I live.
