T509 Power Curve

Hey Guys, I'm from Brazil and I'm considering buying a Speed Triple. but Triumph bikes are REALLY expensive here.
As an example, a 1999 Triple has the same price as a 2006 1200 Bandit.
But I really love the looks and I WANT a S3!!!
The point is: the only one I can afford is a 98 T509, but some people says the engine is a little weak.
Has anyone tuned/changed the 885 engine for better performance? Does it really makes a huge difference, specially in the low end? Any dyno runs before/after?

Have you ridden one? The engines in the 509s are not as strong as the engines in the current S3s, but they're certainly adequate. If I were you, I'd ride one and see if it's not strong enough in stock form.

I own a T509 Triumph and can tell you the bike has plenty of power and is great fun to ride. I'm in São Paulo (Brasil) and would be glad to give you more information on the bike.
