I was thinking of riding the Speedy to see my dad. Albuquerque to Mo about 1050 miles in a direct route. The thing is I dont think I would beable to walk by the time i got there. ( Does that make me old or a Wuss ) I need encouragement the speedy would be fun on backroads of Mo and northern Ok
I 've done it many times on the GW
I know I'll order one of those Sargent seats :-D :-D :-D

The seat would help. Frequent stops for stretching would help. Earplugs would help. But it's still a LONG trip.

I wouldn't want to drive 1050 miles straight through by myself in/on anything. I have driven 2000 miles straight with 2 co-drivers and a vehical where one person could sleep. 700 miles is the most I ever did in one day on a bike and it about killed me. I was only 22 at the time. 1050 miles on a speed triple would be a 3 day ride now.

I agree with cheapbastard! 2 days easy riding. You have to stop every hundred miles or so to re-fuel, quick walk round to stretch the legs and then off again, no problem, HONEST!!

You can look at it like this:
1. 1050 miles in one day = do-able but extremely hard and only fun when it's a story you tell at a bar next Summer to shut everyone else up about how far they can ride.
2. 2 x 505 mile days = two long days, kind of fun.
3. 3 x 350 mile days = I'd say this is the comfort zone. Take a 15 minute break + get gas every 1.5 hours or so (if you cruise at about 100 mph accross Kansas, you'll need gas approx. every 1.5 hours)
4. 4 x 262 mile days = stop for a nice long lunch, see the sights, take the back way, hit some Colorado twisties.
Ear plugs greatly reduce fatigue (and, OK, protect your hearing too) and a good set of waterproofs can make a rainy day kind of fun.
Go for it.

I've done quite a few road trips over the last few years. 400 miles is about the most I like to do in a day. Any more and you aren't really enjoying the ride. It's basically just riding to your destination. Never time to take it in. As we all know, the ride IS the destination.

Hey Alb!!!! I miss ya!
I used to do 500 miles a day easy on various bikes. 750 is doable, but a person gets tired.... But 1050???? You would have to have wrists of iron and a butt of steel!!! 2 days, 8 hours of a easy riding each. Dinners, lunch, nice hotel next to a strip club, er, eh, a family restaruant..... :-p

I just got back from about 1,200 miles in three days in northern California.
Day 1: 460 miles (350 miles of back roads and 110 miles of freeway)
Day 2: 330 miles (all back roads and purely for pleasure, as I slept at the same hotel both nights)
Day 3: 400 miles (310 miles of back roads and 90 miles of freeway)
I found the S3 made a fine tourer, though the freeway time on day 1 tired my neck due to a strong head wind. I think a three-day ride with the mileage you're thinking about would be no problem at all. A two-day itinerary might force you onto the freeway or very straight backroads, which would just be a shame.
P.S. I wore earplugs and agree with the above posters who say they reduce fatigue considerably.

If you just want to get there, 1050 in two days is not too difficult to do if you're in reasonable shape. I did 2400 miles in 3 two years ago (I was 48) on a ZRX1200R - more comfortable than an S3 but still no fairing.
Got to agree with maxed66, find a hotel within walking distance to a steakhouse and a strip club and enjoy the ride.
