Have a track day scheduled for next week - but the bike is pretty much brand new with 500 miles on it. Any thoughts on if this is a bad idea? This would be my first track day ever, so I have no idea how I'm going to react on it (brakes/engine)... Think I should give it a few more months and miles? And, what do track days tend to do to the bike?

If it was my bike I would finish the breakin before doing a track day. You could probably get it done if you try. But there are lots of people who pay no attention to breakin and those who claim it is BEST to run them hard from the start. It is your bike so you decide. You are going to want to run to redline on the track. You are also going to use the brakes to the max. If nothing else, definately do the 500 mile oil change before your track day.

Do an advanced search for breakin in the S3 forum only. You will find about a hunderd threads.

You'll get a million replies from people in two different camps.

If it were me, I'd change the oil and put as many miles on it until next week as possible.

At least on your first track day you won't be running it quite as hard. You need to get used to how the bike handles, and to learn how to ride (properly) on the track before you'll really hammer on it.

Have fun!

Be careful though, track days are highly addictive.
