my gf and i went to a bar tonight. she just turned 21 so i wanted to buy her a drink. we go into the bar and we were probably in there for no longer than 45 minutes. we go back outside to leave and she says, "did you forgot your helmet inside?" i'm like, "no, i left it out here...." then i realize what happened. some jerk off stole my freakin helmet.

learned my lesson. NEVER leave the helmet on the bike ever again.

but i guess the brighter side to the story is...my bike was still there.

Get a Kimber firearms trigger lock, It's a very high quality cable lock. The cable is about 12 inches long, the padlock is plastic coated so it won't scratch.
They are free with a firearm purchase or you can find them on ebay for cheap. Fits very nicely in your pocket.
Or, buy a Kimber .45 ACP and a new helmet.

You should buy the lock and use the free sidearm to hunt down the offender.

I feel for ya - what kind of helmet was it? I leave mine on the seat or hanging from the side most of the time, but mine are lower-end varieties. (Why? Check this out)

Some of the high-end Arais and Shoeis cost more than a set o' slip-ons - I'd be really pissed if I lost one of those.

Do you have another helmet??

I really want a Schuberth - flip-front, with a really cool slide-down sun shield built in. But they run around $500.

Sorry to hear about the helmet. I just bought a lock for mine yesterday because I knew sooner or later some jerk would take it. There are a few different kinds of cool locks on this site: Helmet Locks

I don't recommend the little Master Lock carbinger (sp?) one though. I bought one locally from a hardware store and the latch doesn't open enough to get it around anything but a cable on the bike. I think the other Master retractable cable one looks cool though and ou can just pitch it in under the seat when you are not using it.

O man that really sucks man… I am one of those who has the $500 helmets and I would be pissed if someone took one of them… I never leave my lid on my bike… People can be real asses and I’ve heard some stories of stuff happening to helmets left unattended. (like people pissing, or putting dog poop in it)…

If you really need to leave your lid on the bike.. make sure you run a cable in it and around the bikes frame… don’t just secure it with the helmet straps.. them things can be cut off with a blade really easily…

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I have been trying to figure out how to lock my helmet and jacket to my bike so I don't have to carry these around. The cable locks look like promising options.

On a related noted, my domestic situation has changed, so I find myself offering highly affectionate ladies rides on the bike. However I need to find a way to carry the spare helmet and jacket on my 06 triple, when such instances arrive. Having them meet at my house to gear up is not an option and expecting them to have stuff is also not realistic. Any thoughts?

In FL you'd have the option of letting her wear your jacket and helmet while you took the risk. I'd say get a tail bag but then you'd have nowhere for her to sit...you could go with a backpack but then who wants to wear it all the time "just in case". Maybe one of those compact luggage racks would work because seat would be free and you could bungee a small helmet and jacket there...unless you're into amazon giants...
