My brakes have finally gone mushy again, about 2 1/2 months after I did the caliper piston pushing trick. I will hopefully get a chance to do it again this weekend.

I was at the local Dealer today and complained about the brake mushiness and I was dumbfounded to hear him claim he'd never heard of the problem. Is this some kind of conspiracy or what? Perth doesn't have a huge Triumph population but it still surprises the hell out of me.

Needless to say I explained about the feedback all over the internet and he defended the brakes/Triumph and suggested bleeding and I explained how it doesn't help and about how to temporarily fix the problem by "exercising" the caliper pistons and he went on about people ********ting on the internet... and I started getting the feeling like I might have had equal joy talking to a brick wall.

OK that's not quite fair... I did show him that article about the S3 brakes from the TWO magazine and he faxed it to Triumph Australia to ask if they knew anything about a Triumph Service Bulletin for the brakes.

Has anyone heard anymore about the claim that the S3 caliper pistons didn't get the coating that was applied to the 675 pistons? It'd be nice to have it confirmed that this is the ultimate fix.

My dealer said the same thing and I doubt I'm even going to bother talking to them about it except for my wife's ST. Her brakes are ***** compared to mine.

Last I'd heard was that Triumph was making clear calipers to look into the problem. One of my buddies says its the master cylinder. Bikes with radial master cylinders supposedly don't have the problem because the piston in the MC is attached to the lever so there is a lot less play. I'd heard that the new 675 HAS had some people complaining about the same problem though...

He could be telling the truth - maybe he has not "one" but many complaints.

No, please complain...that's my real point. It seems too many owners are hesitant to complain and just accept sub-standard brakes...

I also demoed a 675 while I was there. The brakes felt deadly after being used to the S3s mushy feel...

me dealer said the same s**t, claiming they'd never heard of the problem, when in fact i knew of others who had complained to the same dealer on multiple occassions. not sure what that's all about.

jnicosia,

The 2005+ 1050 Speed Triples have radial calipers but they have the standard master cylinders.

Some newer bikes have radial calipers and radial master cylinders like the new 675. Our bikes only have the radial calipers, why Triumph did not go with both on the S3, God only knows. :???:

Triumph DID issue a service bulletin on the 2005 S3 brakes, according to my dealer. So any dealer denying this does either not read his mail or isn't interested in the safety of his customers..................

I had a similar argument with my dealer, he insisted that when Triumph sent me a total replacement for my front brake system, calipers, MC, the works, all sealed zip tied to a piece of handlebar, he said that I must have been special because no-one else has this problem, when I know 2 other guys who I ride with that DO have that problem. Not to mention the ever growing list on here. I told him of the list and he said we weren't complaining loud enough because Triumph didn't know about it! Bull Sh1t!
I just bought the BIKE mag where they compare all nakeds, and even the testers complained about the brakes being mushy.....are they "special" too?
Needless to say, my opinion of my dealer is that he is a fooking idiot and he shouldn't be in the business if he doesn't know what is going on with the bikes he sells. I will let you know if my replacement works, but I doubt it will.
