Anybody use one? Are they worth the 3x over the price of a regular disc lock?

If I had a disc lock I'd make sure it had a coiled whatzamazit with a blank key or something in the ignition. Too many forgetful owners will dump the bike otherwsie.

The Xena also let's out an earsplitting noise which says to the people around you "hey, here is a guy trying to steal a motorbike!" every time you remove it from the bike. It is just not physically possible to use the key before the lock goes crazy.

Gladly the noise is signifigantly reduced by just covering the lock opening with your hand. Which is not really a good thing as all the thief has to do is stick a piece of chewing gum to the lock while lifting the bike to a van.

I'd forget the disc locks and get a proper piece of hardened chain to attach the bike to something solid with. And if you want noise, you can get the cheapo Chinese alarms for well under 50 eur.

Edit. Forgot to mention that the Xena also goes crazy in damp weather and rain. Which might piss off your neighbours on the long run.

Thanks guys. Guess I should just save for the datatool. I use a disc lock already and it does have a coiled orange thing that hooks to the clutch lever.

I have one. You can't muffle the alarm with chewing gum. It will not go off when wet. It works for what it was intended to do very well.

Had one, real piece of junk. It works as intended for 3-4 months then goes off whenever it wants, and/or gets impossible to turn off even when removed from the disc.

Here even ressellers advise against them, they are just fed up with returns.

FYI...disc locks are seldom certified by the insurers here, damned too easy to remove, it takes less than 10 secs for a below average thief to remove them....any of them. The only certified locks are U locks and reinforced chains from ABUS, France Antivol etc...

here is a link with the latest "SRA"certified locks www.sra.asso.fr Hope this helps.

An essential addition is for each system the certification date labelled below each system "date de classement xx/xx/xx" : the latest the bettter.

There you have it. Somehow an opinion from a Frenchman doesn't mean crap to me.
