Just got off the phone with one of my riding buddies. Seems he can't stand it anymore, he's going Friday to trade his ZX12 in on a brand new 05 Z1000!!! Funny how the CB changes suit, and many of his riding pals have seemed to follow. After I bought my Speed Triple, it was 2 months later that one of my friends traded his ZX10 in on a ZRX1200. Then just about a month ago, a friend of mine got rid of his Gixxer 600 and bought an SV1000. And now this. There's no denying it fellas... Naked is where it's at!!! So let it all hang out! Here's the color Z1000 my buddy is getting, pretty, but no speedy!!! :-D

yeah, and he loved it! That's what got him think'n about the nakeds so much. 1st time he tried it out was up at Deal's Gap, and he was much more comfortable on it than his 12. He's just one of those that hates having something someone else has, and hey, that's kinda cool with me. I like having the only Speed Triple amongst my riding buddies. Plus he can get a killer deal on that 05 Z1000, he's getting it for $7100 OTD!!! But personally, I'd rather pay the extra $ for the speedy, and yes, you just heard that come out of the CB's mouth! :-D

With the exception of Suzuki, with their bandit and the SVs, it seems the Japanese just can't do the naked bike thing real well. It STILL has a fairing. And it STILL looks like one o' those Anime critters. I gotta soft spot for Kawasaki, but they just goofed with this one... lose the fairing, ditch that buttugly gray sidecover gizmo, for starters.
And what's up with that exhaust? That's the goofiest thing I've ever seen. Tuck that puppy up under the tail, or sling it under like the new 650 Ninja
or even the new GSXRs, and I'd be a happy camper. Then again, maybe your buddy's got all that planned.
Now, the OLD ZRX... mmm... I want one.

I had one of those for not even a year (03 Z1000) Suspension sucked! (only one side of the fork has adjustments. The other is empty!!!)
Vibrated like crazy.
Bought it as left over new for 6,000 OTD! That should of told me something right there. They dont sell for a reason.
I lost the gold pitch fork pipe the first day Had two bros slip ons, and it sounded awesome. (I also had a red seat on mine...had to recover that the first day too)
It makes decent power, but its pretty gutless below 7,000.
I still think its cooler than those plastic bikes out there though. Naked is def where its at!

I'm just waiting for a 675 naked triple. I think the 1050 is a bit too much for me. I'd kill myself.
But I agree...naked is the only way to roll.

I know 1st thing he'll do is rip that exhaust off and put some aftermarket exhaust. He's already said he hated the exhaust. And yep, you're right about the ZRX, just something about it that's kinda classy like the S3. There a hoot to ride too. But when it comes down to it, the naked class can't get much purdier or bad ass than this...

Cheap,
tell him I know where a couple of nice Monsters are in Winston. One close to my house is an '02 S4R for around the same price as the Kawa.
That front fork thing weirds me out on the Z1000.

I can understand where your buddy's coming from. My last two bikes were ZX12R's. Being along term Kawasaki man I test rode the Z1000 (I kinda like the looks) but I didn't like it much....very uncomfortable seating for me (apparently most people over 6 feet feel the same), and it lacked any real character, (something the S3 has by the truckload).
I saw the 05 S3 on the web about 6 months before it was released and fell in love with it right away. After one brief test ride I could not sell my ZX12R quick enough. (only took 3 days). Then I had an agonising 3 month wait for delivery.
It was definately worth the wait. And I am quicker through my favorite roads on the Triple than I ever was on the twelve, particularly the tight stuff. Had it a year last Saturday, have done 13500km.
