Better be careful Rude, I'm guess'n they frown on us post'n links to any other forums. I did yesterday and it mysteriously disappeared! I don't know though, start'n to think it's just the cheapster they frown on! :hammer: :-D But it's cool to see the R1 guys show'n some love. Must be in the blood since I was a freak'n R1 fanatic too, and then I made the switch. I better warn those guys that it will suck them in if they test ride one!!! :-D

I didn't even consider the R1 for very long when I was shopping around. All the power's up high, and while some really, truly dig the Power-Ranger styling, it just ain't my thing. I prefer the bug-eyed beastie with the odd number of cylinders over the Anime-inspired UJM. Now, lose the fairing, tune it for more midrange, and paint it all one color (ideally, black), and I might bite.

Hey R100, the pre-04 R1's were not near as peaky as the newer one's. I owned a 99 R1 and a 02 R1(1st year they went to Fuel Injection), and they both pulled really hard in the midrange. Still didn't have quite the yank as the speedy way down low, but from about 4k rpm on, you'd better hang on, she'll point ya straight to the sky! I got the chance to ride a 05 R1 and was very disappointed in it. It's way more rev happy(more like 6-7k rpm before it started to kick) to feel the power. Granted once you did, it was hard to hold on, but to me, the peakiness just ruins a street bike. But anyways, who cares, I love my speedy!!! :-D
but just in case ya haven't seen the pics, here's the cheapster on his 99 R1, I do still miss her, I poured my heart, soul, and wallet into that bike. She had everything you could possibly want chromed or polished with RC component wheels, full Yoshi exhaust, and few other minor mods. Had her dynoed when she had a 1k miles on her after the exhaust and jet kit was added and she dynoed at 142 hp and 78 ft.lb. torque! Anyways, check her out(even though the quality of the pics suck!)...

Cheapbastard - please don't take this personally BUT -
Riding without leathers / gloves etc. . . . KNOBHEAD
Think you ought to change your name to BeefBurger cos thats what your going to look like when you come off.
Here's a little test you can do on your own when no one is watching - wear the same outfit (shorts and t-shirt) find a nice smooth piece of road, stand perfectly still and then throw yourself forward using just your knees / elbows then hands to stop yourself.
That will result in a 'slight' loss of skin and the need for only a mild scrubbing of the wounds to remove the lose gravel. Now imagine trying the same at just 30mph.
It's not rocket science.
.GNOME.
PS: sorry for the rant but it's something that REALLY gets my back up

No worries, Gnome! Granted that wasn't that long ago(dang, longer than I thought, 'bout 6 yrs ago, guess I'm getting old! ), but the CB has since learned his lesson! And btw, I know exactly what road rash feels like at around 25-30 mph, and yes, IT SUCKS!!! Sorry, I should've posted that those pics were stupid, and that everyone needs to wear there gear. I feel completely naked riding anymore without my gear on. Anways, no apologies necessary for the rant, I admit I was dumb as hell then! :-D

I dunno. I think Cheap's sartorial minimalism is more of an artistic statement, a comment upon the draconian restrictions of our safety-obsessed culture (full-face helmet) vs. the anarchic freedom of feeling the wind blow up your shorts and down yer a$$ crack.
Nice bike, love the polished bits. But I like the naked look better (on the bike, not you, Cheap).
My only question is... if you're gonna ride around on one wheel all the time, have you ever considered just getting a unicycle? They probably make 'em in scorched yellow.

Ahh 'young and foolish' (well youngish  )
I have seen so many low speed off's it really makes me cringe. Think the worst ones are the guys that take thier 'skantily' clad young ladies on the back. .. yep they look cool / horney etc but are they still going to love em when they look like a mcdonalds special.
Hot n sweaty - the only way to live
