Two of my exhaust valve clearances are on the low side (.18mm versus minimum spec of .20mm) so I'm pulling them out to re-shim them. I'm to the point where the manual says lift the cam chain off the cam shaft sprocket and remove shaft. But there's not quite enough slack.

Per manual, I've removed the chain tensioner (big bolt first, remove it and spring, then remaining two bolts and remove tensioner) and have removed the cam caps and ladder. Cam shafts are loose and held in only the the chain.

There's almost enough slack to clear the cam shaft sprocket but it's not enough.

Advice?

Did you ever get it figured out? Haven't messed with the Triumph but on my other bike you have to remove the sprockets off the cam. Zip tie the chain to the sprocket so you don't lose timing. How do you make sure the chain stays on the crankshaft sprocket?

Littlefield,

No, I haven't gotten it figured out yet. I understand your comment re removing the sprocket. But the manual is clear that isn't necessary. Moreover, once you get it all set to TDC so all the valves and pistons are where they need to be and you don't want to be turning anything anymore, you don't have access to both of the bolts holding the spocket to the shaft.

Still looking for any help.
