The other issue is what about warranty stuff? I'm thinking of taking mine to a local guy to get the throttle bodies checked out... What is the consensus?

In the US, by law, if you can demonstrate that required service was performed (by providing receipts for parts, etc), Triumph cannot deny a warranty claim. Even if you don't perform the required service, Triumph can't deny a warranty claim unless it can demonstrate that the failure was caused by lack of maintenance.
I just looked again at the
scheduled maintenance at the 6,000 mile service. I'd do it myself as I have more confidence in my own work than in a shop mechanic's.
Incidentally, have you guys noticed that the famous and important first (600 mile) service does
not entail checking the torque on
any fasteners?! The closest thing is "Fasteners - inspect visually for security." If one has the mechanical skills to change the oil, one has the mechanical skills to perform the first service oneself. Save your $250!
