seems like this is the case. if i do a high speed run down the freeway doing 80mph for about 10 miles, jump off, and start crusing city streets, the tranny is definitely more notchy. it's harder to get the gears to engage. they click more.

it's not really a "problem" so to speak...i just wish the tranny felt the same as when it is not hot. it shifts so good for the first few miles during warmup.

btw, i have roughly 2000 miles on my s3 now.

If you like things smoother switch to the 15W50 oil recommended in yer manual. I like the Mobil 1 4T. Just remember to let the engine idle for a while on cold starts with the thicker oil, but otherwise there should be no noticeable difference lubricationwise. Unless you ride in subzero temperatures.

Ah, OK. Then might be just that your bike has not yet completely loosened up yet as the Triumphs tend to do during the first 10000km.

Or your gear shift linkage might be in need of some adjusting & tightening up.

At 2k your tranny is still trying to figure itself out... How many miles on your current oil? I only use mobil 4t (not Triumph branded) New oil can make a big difference in this new of a tranny. I'm not even going to suggest swapping your oil... That gets ugly fast...

Anyway, it will smooth out. Also, as Martin suggested you might want to check all your adjustments. My clutch cable required a full adjustment at the clutch at about 2500-3k... Really fast and easy... Also, my rearsets wer all over the place... I changed mine at about 3k as well. Made all the difference in shifting...

thanks guys.

yes, i have readjusted the shift linkage and applied the blue locktite. i also have adjusted the clutch near the engine with the two locknuts.

i changed my oil at 507 miles with mobil1 mx4t 10w40. i ran on that oil until about the 1900 mile mark and switched over to redline 15w50. i now have put close to 250 miles on the redline oil. i guess i will give the tranny more time to break in.

The whole footpeghangers, pegs, gear shift linkage & associated bits.

Might also be just the oil brand you are using. But like Geof3 said, everyone has their preference and it is of no use to anyone to start another debate about the subject. I guess you will know best if the tranny of your bike was/is notchy with other brands or not. Like Geof, I have had no trouble or notchiness with the 15W50 Mobil stuff.

The bike will have false neutrals, notchy shifting, and all kinds of other strangeness for the first 8,000 miles or so before it mostly disappears. Just keep the oil changed every 3,000 miles and use the tranny like you would normally. It just needs miles on it and some wear.
