Went riding this afternoon stopped for gas and noticed that there was oil leaking out of the vent tube from the air box, got it home and pulled it apart and noticed that the air box was damp with oil I pulled the crankcase vent tube off the side of the motor and it too had oil in it . the bike has never been on it side , I was riding hard I bumped it off rev limiter a couple times . What was really scary is that the vent tube from air box exits rite in front of rear tire and the grooves of the tire has oil in them (WOW) not a good place it will be rerouted. But what caused the oil to wind up in the air box ????

On many bikes, the crankcase is vented to the airbox. If you overfill the bike with oil, oil will make its way up the vent tube to the airbox and give the result you've observed. I'm not certain your S3 has this type of crankcase breather arrangement, but I'll bet it does.

Have you checked your oil level? Is it high?

The bad news is that there is also a small possibility you're getting a bit of blow by, which basically means worn rings/bore. A compression test should confirm/deny this.

But if we're looking at blowby... the oil would be burnt and not make its way all the way through the fuel system (or am I still stuck on carborated engines?)

Pretty common arrangement on both cars and bikes. Even my boxer has a vent tube to the airbox. But no, the thing shouldn't be spewing oil onto the tire. Anybody got a service manual?
