On balance I ride pretty mellow... One of the best things about this bike... It rides mellow just as well as stupid fast...
I don't do big wheelies, I do a power wheelie every now and then, don't want to loop this thing!! Burnout's are just stupid unless you have a limited supply or a sponsorship for tires. Stoppies... to hard on the bike... Done a couple... been there done that!!
I do commute on my bike, but my commute is semi-back country very nice...
Mostly I like the mountain passes here. Take them as fast as I feel that day, within reasonable limits. There is a point on the open road where, skilz or no skilz you're pushing the line. I believe in PACE and live by it... (hopefully). I love the sheer speed of this machine, but also seriously respect it. The roads here are not generally safe over about 105... I've done 140 to date (GPS) and rarely break the 105 limit... I do touch 95-100 almost every speedo reset though...
Track time... different story!!
At a minimum I wear my Sidi vertigo's, Icon jeans and leather, every time I ride. Full gloves and a helmet. Usually I ride in full leathers.
I recently changed tires, my Pilots had nearly 5500 miles on them, worn basically even front to back...

i'm with you man. i posted a topic awhile back and the title was "what's the difference between a hooligan and a squid?" I did not get many replies...
i'm 23 years old and whenever someone sees me on my bike, i assume that THEY assume i am a squid who does burnouts and wheelies at every stop light. this is not the case. i ride my motorcycle very responsively (well, most of the time. every now and then, you just have to act a fool...it's an s3 for crying out loud!)
i'm also the same person who posted the hot topic of "who revs over 4,000rpm?" i'd say, 99% of the people who replied to that thread were like "are you crazy? you have to ring this things neck!" i totally did not expect that. this bike has so much power down low that anything over 4,000rpm is for adrenaline rush purposes.
so yeah, to sum it all up, the more and more i read this forum, i realize we have a lot...*ahem*..riders, who like to have a lot of fun. maybe too much fun...i've had an accident once already and am lucky to be alive. i learned my lesson.

I guess some people must love to shift. I don't know about your bike, but mine's lugging pretty bad much below 3K. That only leaves maybe 1200 rpm between gears to stay under 4. In normal riding, I usually accelerate fairly briskly in the first two gears and shift around 6500. Then I do a double or triple upshift to get in the right gear for cruising.
Anyway, to answer the question, my friends all bust on me because I bought a hooligan bike and I've never even done a wheelie. I've picked up the front end an inch or three on hard acceleration, but never the traditional wheelie. They can laugh all they want, but I've never dropped a bike yet and I don't intend on it ever being my fault if it does happen.
As far as going fast goes, I feel there's a time and place for everything. I'll let my buddies pull away from me through town as they dart and dive through traffic, but then I'll show 'em the tail lights in the twisties. I did ton up speeds routinely when I lived in the desert, but it's a rare occasion now that I'm in a more congested area. It's all about keeping your head about you. My flight instructor once told me that "the superior pilot uses his superior judgement to avoid the need to use his superior skill." I think that advice goes pretty well for bikes, too.

Is that you in the picture R100? Were you the builder in the Village People? Last time I saw you had a checked shirt and white safety helmet on
Oh, and I have 2 kids, a beautiful wife, a great life but I still ride too fast much of the time. Never in town or through estates, but once I hit the country roads I go fast, wheelie and regularly hit 3 figures.
I'd have bought a Rocket if I wanted to cruise, or a black S3.

Most of the time straight line riding is kept "near" the speed limit. Twisties sometimes get taken a little more vigorously. :-D Gear is at minimum helmet, jacket with armor, jeans or riding pants, gloves, and boots.
On very rare occasions I may go around the block like this:

PS: this was taken at last weekends AMA Race at Road America - I was riding 50 yards to and from Dyno from parking.

I ride about 12,000 to 15,000 miles a year, all recreationally on weekend day rides and a couple three to seven day tours every year. I ride The Pace and I wear a helmet and full leathers. The corners is where I have my fun.

Hmm, no biggie if you're not a wheelie nut, R100. I'm happy to brandish my hooligan label and shove it back into the faces of the squid crowd and laugh about the fact that I've never dropped, dumped, or wrecked on the road even once. I almost always wear full gear unless I'm doing around town (small town local) riding. Otherwise, when I'm doing hooligan play I wear my helmet, over ankle boots, armored jacket, full armored gloves, and Icon underarmor under my jeans if not my full race Leather pants.
When I rode the Dragon I wore my full leathers and will probably do the same this July, especially if Autumn doesn't go along.
Anyway, when I'm in town I respect my fellow travellers and stick close to the speed limit. I'd rather not break in my frame sliders or my face, and in town you really don't get anywhere any faster by doing double the speed limit. I regularly see guys flying on their sportbikes and I just catch them at the next light. Kinda sad, really.
Oh, and no matter how slow or fast you ride, make sure to keep your bike in tip top shape. I have little respect for people who are clueless about how their bike works, let alone don't bother to maintain things like their brakes and chain. I have a lot more respect for Kyle Woods than your average 'good citizen' who follows ALL the BMV rules to the T.
Regardless of how you ride, don't do it for rep or whatever. I ride wheelies, stoppies, and do powerslides in the rain because it helps me stay alive. I figure, if I can push the bike to its limits when I don't need to, I'll know what I can do when I HAVE TO.

I fully admit that I may be pathetic and probably old before my time. When I was 25, 40 years old was ancient. In a year and a half I will be officially ancient. But I will still be rolling the occasional wheelie.
I don't ride as much as I used to. About 7500 miles each year. I don't commute much anymore for various reasons which explains why it's gone down from about 10,000. I do ride all year round whenever the weather is dry, or when it looks like it'll be dry when I leave the house. Sometimes it doesn't turn out that way. :-D
Almost every weekend I ride into Portland (Oregon) to a pub- about 50 miles round trip and mostly freeway. Some of you guys probably remember that I don't drink, so that's not an issue.
On Fridays or Saturdays I drag race at PIR. That's were most of the wheelies and stuff are done.
Occasionally I take a longer trip, like up the Olympic peninsula or down the Oregon coast, but usually I just do a few evening runs on the many excellent roads in my area. Once in a while I do a longer (full day) run up to Mt. Saint Helens or up the Columbia River Gorge.
I often break triple digits and grind the things tires on the back roads around here, but usually I'm pretty mellow. I know wounds heal and chicks dig scars, but I also know that I don't heal the way I used to. I have to agree that I just can't afford to crash a bike that I've basically mortgaged my left testicle to buy. Not that I'm using it at the moment.
